18 February: Fernando Alonso sets a time below 1:14 for the first time in 2005 as testing at Barcelona concludes. Final day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in preparation for the start of the Formula 1 season. Three teams were present with 6 drivers setting lap times. Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the day with a 1:13.971. This is the first time in 2005 that a driver sets a time below the 1:14 mark and is just two tenths of a second shy of the all time lap record set last year. Giancarlo Fisichella set the second fastest time just a tenth behind while Ralf Schumacher in the Toyota was a distant third. Giancarlo Fisichella covered the most number of laps with 132 followed by Tiago Monteiro with 120 and Fernando Alonso with 100 laps. The Jordan team gave Nicky Pastorelli a chance to test with the team. Pastorelli who is the 2004 Euro 3000 Champion covered 29 laps with a best time of 1:24.731. Teams will be making their final preparations for the first Grand Prix race of the season in Melbourne next week with tests scheduled at Imola, Silverstone and Valencia.
