News just in that Australia's Motor Racing legend has been killed during a racing rally in Western Australia.

Peter Brock has won the Bathurst 1000 nine times.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and his friends.

Peter Brock R.I.P

We will provide updates on this tragic event throughout the day.

Thanks Ed. I am totally shocked. I met Peter quite a few times at different events and he was a really nice guy. He always made you feel as if you were important and he had a really good memory and would say "hi" if he passed you in a crowd.
A very sad day for motorsport and Australia.

It's sad to hear of Peter "perfect" Brock's death. Not only was he a great driver, he was a great person.

I am trying to get info on the condition of his navigator. The Daytona Coupe they were competing in struck a tree, during a high speed stage of the WA rally

According to reports, his co-driver is Mick Hone and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Yes thanks Ed. I just heard that on the news and he is apparently in a stable condition. By the look of the television footage the impact was taken by the driver... Peter.

From a video report I have just seen, it appears the drivers side door of the silver Daytona Coupe has taken the full impact of a collision with a large tree.
