SYMMONS PLAINS-FERODO TASMANIA CHALLENGE

Post by Julian Mayo » Fri Nov 10, 2006 11:41 am

The next round of the V8Supercars kicks off today at Symmons Plains, where Kelly and Lowndes will resume their battle for the title.

The Circuit; A fast 2.4kms anti clockwise track with 8 turns, if you include the bend in the long, long, back straight
Fast and flowing, punctuated by a diabolical hairpin at the end of pit staight, which is tightly cambered.
It is hard on brakes, and difficult to set up for. Exit speed is vital.
The outright record was set at 50.54 secs by A. Aonstanzo in a Lola F5000
The outright lap record is held by T Kelly at 51.9962.......
Those who regard V8 Supercars as lumbering dinosaurs had best think again.

Ford has won once in the last 5 years (Ingall, 2004)
No pole sitter has won in the same period.

The Program
Friday- practice 50 laps
.
Sat - Qualifying 20 minutes
Sat - Top Ten
Sat - Race 1 42 laps

Sun - Race 2 58 laps
Sun - Race 3 58 laps.

I expect the entire field will be covered by about 1 second. The round can be won or lost in the pitstops.
Lowndes is racing a new car which after a comprehensive test is, he feels, better suited to the demands of this track..

TV Times - CH Ten
Sat - 3.30 - 5pm
Sun - 2pm - 5pm
