BATHURST

Post by Julian Mayo » Tue Sep 13, 2005 1:26 pm

This is the thread for your "Mountain" thoughts, and information as I get it.
(the carrier pigeon is demanding overtime rates)
It is also the thread to post your selections for the TOP TEN SHOOTOUT.
As at Sandown, nominating your driver will be the entry for the shootout, regardless of which of the two drivers does the shootout.

Who will win "The Great Race?" Why?
Pick the first three over the line in the right order after 1000kms, and I'm sure ED could dust off a magnificent prize from the the cabinet. (ED?)

Who will not make the start line after the "Mountain" bites, in practice and qualifying?
Who will be the first team to retire?
Can Glen Seton finally break his Mountain Hoodoo? I believe he is the only championship winner to have not won Bathurst, despite some 10-11 attempts.
How many laps will the safety car do (ED, hows the supply of prizes?)
The Mountain is a savage Mistress.

My thoughts on Bathrst: "Sick mate!"
Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

First I need to do the results for Sandown! I am surprised you haven't reminded me

Prize for Bathurst, ok, pick the top 3 in the correct order and you'll win a prize.

So put your top 10 in the Shootout then the top 3 finishers!

Julian will provide the team entries.

Julian will provide a comprehensive entry list, even if it means having to go all the way into town, and buying a motor racing magazine...... #@*##!*@*^.!# Bigpond and its lack of info.
You are the expert here Julian

A really good competition would be "pick the number of safety car laps", Ed. There was a year when it did over forty. A comp would ease the frustration of that! Huh?...Huh?...ED?

Too many competitions would be frustrating too. Imagine the confused players

Some Mt. Panorama Stats.
The track is 6.213 kilometres long
There are 23 corners
The top speed of a V8 supercar on The Mountain to date is 292kmh
The fastest corner is taken (by the brave) at 292kmh
the slowest corner is taken at 90kmh
There are 4 compulsory pit stops during the 1000km race.
two for tyres, and two for fuel.
A minimum of two tyres must be changed
One must include a brake pad change.
There must be at least 2 driver changes, ie., 1 driver can do the first and last stint.
The Pit Window for these changes will be between L 5 & L 120.
The outright and qualifying lap record is held by Greg Murphy at 2: 06: 8594 set in 2003.( in a commodore)
The fastest race lap was also set in 2003 by Garth Tander with a time of 2: 08: 6726( also in a commodore)
Over the last 10 years Holden Commodores have sat on pole on 6 occasions.
Ford Falcons have had the honours 4 times.
Holden have won every year since 1995, Except 1998.
That is 9 victories in 10 years to GMH.
The Mountain is a savage Mistress.

Just 20 days to go,
A couple more facts about the Mountain.
There has been a 500mile, or 1000km race at The Mountain since 1963 when it was moved from Philip Island.
The steepest grade on the track is 1 in 6:13.
The climb from turn 1 to the "Skyline" at the top of the Mountain is 580ft, or about 174 metres.
More than 300,000 people visit Bathurst (when there is no motor racing) each year to drive around the track (source. Bathurst tourist Bureau)

Mostly yes. I should have a complete driver combo list well before the end of next week. It seems nothing has been confirmed yet for a couple of teams.

Stone Brothers have just gone on record as saying there will be NO team orders at Bathurst for Ambrose and Ingall.
Under the Avesco point scoring system each driver can dump their worst scoring round up to and including Bathurst. This will leave a 58 point gap between the two going into Bathurst....or 15 places between them at the finish line.
With different major sponsors on the two cars, I guess The Stones have no choice but to let them race all out.
So it is the Enforcer V The Tassie Devil. Let battle commence.

Bathurst snippets:
18 Holden Commodores will line up against 16 Fords in the 34 car field.

There are 13 past winners in the starting line up. Between them they have won The Great Race 30 times.

Including Australia, drivers from 6 nations are competing.
The others are Canada, Denmark,France,New Zealand, and Scotland.

Jim Richards and James Courtney are paired together in an HRT car. When Jim won the second of his 7 Great Race wins, James was yet to be born. Jim is still one of the fastest, smoothest and relaxed drivers out there, it will be interesting to chart the progress of this pairing.

Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly are on a hatrick, or threepeat.

In the last two Great Races The Stone Bros Falcons have slaughterd their tyres, have they now got a set-up for The Mountain?

This year the Official Safety Car will be a Chrysler 300C. This model does not go on sale in Australia until the end of the year but has been the safety car for this season. It is powered by a 5.7 litre HEMI V8 with 250 kw at 5000rpm
and produces an impressive 525nm of torque. The "Hey Charger" of old is alive and well
Lets just hope we dont get to see much of it.
