Like Father, Like Son.......................

Here's an interesting fact about this year's Rolex 24.....five past winners of the "twice-around-the-clock" classic have sons competing in this year's race................

~~Alex Gurney(father Dan Gurney won the first Daytona endurance race in 1962)
~~David Donohue(the late Mark Donohue won in 1969)
~~Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor(father Wayne Taylor has 2 24hr. victories, in 1996 and 2005)
~~Graham Rahal(father Bobby Rahal won back in 1981)
~~Justin Bell(father Derek Bell won three times, in 1986, 1987 and 1989)

We have a new overall leader as the #6 Flight Options team for Michael Shank Racing is reporting a suspension failure(team radios are reporting a bell housing problem.......   )....watching the SpeedTV feed, it appears they've begun hauling the car back to the paddock for repairs..........

The lead now goes to the #01 Telmex Ganassi team with drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Pruett, Dario Franchitti and Memo Rojas; GT lead still unchanged, the #70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 with drivers Nick Ham, Sylvain Tremblay, David Haskell and Raphael Matos now in 10th place overall

After nearly a month off the track, the stars and teams of the Grand-Am Rolex Series return to the track early next week for a two-day test at Homestead-Miami Speedway, site of next month's Gainsco Grand prix of Miami, round 2 of the 2008 Grand-Am season; at least 30+ entries(19 Daytona Prototype and 15 Grand Touring, according to Grand-Am officials) are expected for the test on the 2.3-mile stadium road course at Homestead.

2007 Pacific F2000 champion to race in Grand-Am..........

Post by mlittle » Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:37 pm

2007 Pacific F2000 champion and Team USA Scholarship winner Patrick Barrett, who was previously slated to compete in the 2008 Atlantic Championship w/PR1 Motorsports, will be joining the team for 2008 but in the sports-car ranks instead, as he recently announced that he will be driving for them in the Grand-Am Rolex Series, piloting a 2008-spec Pontiac GXP-R alongside fellow PR1 stablemate Mike Forest; fellow Atlantic Championship competitors Alan Sciuto and Thomas Merill will join Forest and Barrett for the endurance races on the calendar(the Sahlen's 6 Hours @ the Glen and the Discount Tire Sunchaser 1000k). According to PR1 officials, Barrett will serve as the team's reserve driver for the upcoming Gainsco Grand Prix of Miami, then will slide into the driver's seat alongside Forest for the Bosch Engineering 250 at Virginia International Raceway in late April.
