http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmX08S5Pc2c Here is the late-race footage from the 1982 Indianapolis 500, when two old bulls, Gordon Johncock and the Oval Meister, Rick Mears, raced to the then-closest finish of "the Greatest Spectacle in Racing".

Highlights of the 1995 Indianapolis 500, remembered for two differing things..........1--this was the last pre-split 500, and 2--the race was won by then-Players/Forsythe Racing driver Jacques Villeneuve who IMO got a "gift" victory when the officials penalized Scott Goodyear for supposedly passing the pace car(when it was the pacecar that couldn't get its' --- outta' the way before a late restart)
