This weekend we are off to the land of hope and glory, the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
Unfortunately for the red rockets, the fire has gone out. The Mercedes juggernaut came out of the summer break and have never looked back. For Sebastian Vettel, the off while leading at his home race was the beginning of the end.

So, my thoughts for this race are.
Mercedes will take both step at the top of the podium.
Max will dive bomb Vettel into turn 1 and not be seen for the rest of the race.
Vettel should recover enough and maybe able to hold off the charging Ricciardo
Kimi should take p6.

Now it gets interesting....

This latest incarnation of Force India with Perez will like it here. They will be battling with probably Grosjean for p7.
Possibly Ocon for P9 and maybe that wonder kid Leclerc for the final points position.

Overnight rain and continuing showers welcomed the teams to the Circuit of the Americas.
The session was relatively incident free other then Charles Leclerc spinning and bringing gravel back onto the circuit. The decision was made to throw the red flag and clean up the mess. Numerous small offs as drivers tested the grip levels and Esteban Ocon scaring his crew when he entered his pit too quickly for the conditions.

Both Toro Rosso's will start at the rear of grid following the installation of new power units for this event.

The intensity of the rain increased leading to most teams sitting out the first half of the session.
The only drivers to take to the track early were Brendon Hartley and Stoffel Vandoorne as these were the two who had given up heir seats in FP1.
Carlos Sainz also did an installation however no time was recorded. All other drivers remained in their garages.

Stewards are investigating Sebastian Vettel for not slowing enough after the red flag was displayed in FP1. There are suggestions of timing problems that may support Vettel's cause. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

Let's start with the news.
Sebastian Vettel has been give a 3 place grid penalty for failing to slow quickly enough when the red flag came out in FP1.

For the first time this weekend, the drivers were greeted with a dry track.
Brendon Hartley's Torro Rosso lost a device from his halo on the back straight.
Brendon Hartley then spun in the penultimate corner which would have slowed Daniel Ricciardo's lap.
There were numerous off tracks as all drivers are still finding the grip limits.

Max Verstappen clipped a track limiting kerb mid way through Q1 and damaged his right rear suspension. Red Bull couldn't repair the car in time for him to participate in Q2.
Both Toro Rosso's made it into Q2 but limited themselves to out laps and practice starts due to the penalties requiring them to start rear of grid.
Sebastian Vettel qualified in 2nd but will start in 5th with his 3 place grid penalty.
This will enable Kimi, Valtteri and Daniel to each move up one position from their qualifying positions.
Max Verstappen takes a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change but starts in 18th ahead of the Toro Rosso's.
