This weekend will be a race of pride. At home in Germany, no-one will get near the Mercedes duo. The big question is 'Will Nico finish ahead of Lewis?' Time will tell

It must be said that the momentum is with Lewis, he managed to get back into the championship fight so quickly. The pressure has to be on Nico and going by the past 2 years, it will be very difficult for him.
Nico has to win in Germany going into the summer break

And I agree they will be alone at the front!

3rd Free Practice:

Rosberg quickest with a 1:15.738 from Hamilton (+0.057), Ricciardo (+0.099), Raikkonen (+0.164), Vettel (+0.366), Verstappen (+0.444), Bottas (+0.662), Massa (+0.892), Alonso (+1.178) & Hulkenberg (+1.234)

Sainz, Gutierrez, Kvyat, Perez, Magnussen, Palmer, Ericsson, Nasr, Button, Wehrlein, Haryanto and Grosjean make the rest of the field.

Bottas covered the most number of laps with 28 followed by Massa with 26. Grosjean only managed 4 laps while Button only managed 6 laps. Grosjean does have a gearbox issue and will have a 5 place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change.

While the times at the top are very close, it appears that Mercedes didn't really push. Pole will be a fight between Rosberg and Hamilton while the 2 Red Bull and 2 Ferrari drivers will fight for the positions behind.

Seems Nico is determined to head into the summer break leading the championship. What surprised me was Red Bull being pretty close to Mercedes! I still don't think Red Bull would be able to keep up with the Mercs although if Ricciardo gets a good start, it could make things interesting.

Ferrari are slipping behind, one this track they should have been ahead of Red Bull, the confirmation that Allison has left shows that they are in crisis and I think they will end up behind Red Bull for most of the remaining races. Their fight with Red Bull though will be interesting as this is the team Vettel left in frustration, 2 years later that team is beating him!

Well, that was a pretty exciting race. Hamilton wins the start and controls from the front. The first corner, with Verstappen going around the outside of Ricciardo, was something to be seen. Verstappen, to his credit, lifted a little on the straight to not affect Riccardo's race. He may have expected that he would get the spot back later in the race but that was not to be. And Rosberg, after buzzing the tyres during his start, just never really recovered.

Well, that was the German GP. Now off to the summer break for the drivers who need to get their heads back together and for the rest to try to work out just how to get closer to those Mercedes factory cars.

Pleasantly surprised with the pace of the Red Bull .... Even Christian Horner was

Hamilton won the race at the start .... He deserved it.

My driver of the day was Ricciardo, that is the Ricciardo I like to watch, he reminded me when he beat Vettel at Red Bull two years ago. Other notables to me were Hulkenberg and Button. It was also good to see Alonso passing another car! When was the last time that happened ... such a waste not to be at the pointy edge.

I felt sorry for Rosberg though, it seems that everything is going against him. He didn't deserve that penalty particularly against Verstappen who has pushed the rules more than once. Then to take that penalty of 5 seconds to turn out to be more like 8 seconds! What was that about ? And Paddy's explanation later was equally shocking! F1 teams go to the nth degree to be ultra efficient, how could a team even allow 1 second to be given away as a 'safety' factor. That was just BS

After 4 races in a month we have a month with no races .... It is going to be tough!!

I am giving my Driver of the Day vote to Ricciardo.
His pace on his second set of Super Softs allowed him to catch and pass young Max and then he continually harassed Hamilton all the way to the flag.

Next best would have to be Button in the still underpowered McLaren.
