Re: The 2017 Spanish GP thread
This track where the teams have conducted 8 days of testing prior to the start of the 2017 season.
From these tests, we deduced that Ferrari have finally built a decent chassis with a decent power unit.
Mercedes were also near the top of the tree with their 2017 spec machine.
Red Bull still seem to have some unreliability problems and are also down on top end power. This also applied to Renault and Toro Rosso.
Force India seem to be back near where they should be.
Williams need to start scoring points with young Lance Stroll. The last outing showed that when Filipe is off, the team doesn't stand a chance of points.
Haas. What can I say. They need to sort out their braking issues so the drivers can concentrate on getting the cars home.
Sauber. I can see that running the 2016 spec Ferrari engine should get them home but last season's Ferrari was a dog. I know that the chassis didn't to justice to the talents of Kimi and Sebastian but the car, other than the first race, never looked a winner.
McLaren. What is there to say. Alonso screws every last ounce of performance out of his beast but it isn't enough in the race with engine performance turned down to try and get the car home.

Re: The 2017 Spanish GP thread
FP1 Results
Points of note
1. All fastest times were set on the Pirelli medium compound tyre.
2. Vettel had a small problem delaying his session. It was thought to be a gearbox however now appears to be a wheel problem.
3. Fernando Alonso popped another engine resulting in no time being set.
4. Magnussen finished the session in turn 4 with a box full of neutrals.
5. Mercedes have come to this event with some substantial upgrades to their cars. I think the the Ferrari pace so far this season has them concerned.
6. Most other teams have, what seem to this outsider, fairly inconspicuous upgrades. Ferrari the most noticeable with the updated T wing.

FP2 Results
Points of note
1. All fastest times were recorded on the Pirelli soft compound tyre.
2. Grip. All teams are complaining of a lack of grip.
3. Wind. The wind is gusty causing drivers to lose control of their cars in the exposed turns.
4. Instability. The rear tyres seem to either be gripping or not. There doesn't seem to be an indication prior to loss of grip.

Re: The 2017 Spanish GP thread
I decided to give my Driver of the Day vote to Pascal Wehrlein.
In the underpowered Sauber, he managed to bring the car home to a good points finish.
Closely followed by Carlos Sainz who continues to impress. This kid will get a big team drive soon.

Re: The 2017 Spanish GP thread
Gave it to Hamilton, simply because he sounded both out of breath and, for periods, down and out over the radio. The pass wasn't so impressive, but the mental resilience, and maybe physical too, was.
