Re: The 2017 Hungarian GP Thread
This weekend we head to Hungary for the last race before the mid-season break.
With Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes on a roll, Sebastian Vettel will have to be at his best to maintain his slim championship lead.
Valtteri Bottas has shown his class with 2 wins and 2 poles in 2017 for his new team.
Kimi has not really switched on this season in what is arguably the next best car.
The Red Bulls have been going reasonably well with Daniel Ricciardo have a great run of podiums culminating with a win in Azerbaijan. Hopefully his team mate Young Max's run of bad luck is over.
The pink Force India twins of Perez and Ocon have performed admirably and are close to the podium.
Toro Rosso. I think that Kvyat has been rattled by his demotion from the main team and then the pace of Carlos Jr, he is making too many mistakes. These become compounded when he makes contact with his team mate. Advice Daniil. Work with him, not against.
Now to the rest. Where do we start.
Williams. Other than Azerbaijan, this team has under-performed. I understand that having a novice driver can be detrimental to overall results but Lance Stroll is starting to show some class. Now he has achieved both first points and then a podium, his confidence is on a high. If they can get it together, this team is a regular top 10 finisher.
Renault. After some time at the rear of field, Hulkenberg has showed some real pace and Palmer is so close to points on so many occasions.
Hass. Again, a model of inconsistency. With Grosjean forever complaining about his brakes and Magnussen with only 3 points finishes, this team needs to step up to the big league.
McLaren. I feel the Honda, and hence McLaren, are finally showing signs that they are turning the corner. With 3 years of racing development, a company the size of Honda should have their act together. Not saying it is all their fault. The chassis wasn't quite there for some time but that seems to have been rectified.
Sauber. The decision to use last seasons Ferrari power unit has come back to bite them. Maybe next season but forget this one.

FP1 Results
Alfonso Celis and Antonio Giovinazzi appeared for their respective teams for free practice 1 leaving Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen sitting on the wall waiting for their cars to be returned for their stint in free practice 2. Alfonso Celis kept up his end of the deal bringing the car back but Antonio Giovinazzi left his Hass firmly planted in the tyre barrier. This brought out the first red flag for the day to allow the marshals opportunity to clear the track to allow practice to resume. In the final moments of the session, Jolyon Palmer ran wide in turn 4 and, while trying to return to the track, ripped off his front wing and punctured his right front. Debris spread into turn 5 and the session came to a close.

FP2 Results
Free practice 2 was disrupted twice with red flags for similar incidents by Pascal Wehrlein in his Sauber and Jolyon Palmer's Renault. Both cars entered their turns, rear end began to let go, drivers marginally over-corrected and the cars hit the tyre walls. Pascal Wehlein's incident the most frightening by going into the initial barrier on the right front corner before recoiling into the barrier on the other side of the service road access and wiping out the left side. Palmer's damage was primarily to the right rear corner. Both drivers walked away with apparently no injuries but Wehrlein did visit the medical center.
For the second time today, the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo topped the time sheets. Hamilton's time is impressive as his time was done on softs while nearly all other times by the others were done super softs.
Hulkenberg is poised to take a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change.
Bring on Saturday!

Good to see Ricciardo up there .... lets hope for another win for him here
Would be good to see three teams up there
Alonso being 8th just shows how pathetic Honda power is!

Re: The 2017 Hungarian GP Thread
Qualifying
It sort of looks like Noah's ark. 2 x 2 x 2....
The Ferrari duo settled into qualifying and did the business when it mattered.
Valtteri Bottas set his time on his first run while Lewis aborted his and could only manage fourth on his second run.
Paul di Resta quietly got down to business improving each lap. Impressive as his car setup is for Massa and will be stuck with it for the race. Considering he hasn't raced in Formula 1 since 2013, it is a great effort.
Penalties.
Nico Hulkenberg gets a 5 grid place penalty which pushes him down to 12th.
Daniil Kvyat also gets a 3 grid place penalty for obstructing Lance Stroll in Q1 and will start out of 16th.
