This weekend sees the final leg of the triple header. With most teams based in the UK, it will be a welcome return home for most.

Following a disastrous round in Austria for the Mercedes team, they return to Silverstone and Lewis will have something to prove now that he is again behind in the chase to the World Driver's Championship. Whether Ferrari, Red Bull or, to a lesser extent, Haas have something to say about it, we will have to wait and see.
McLaren turned the corner with a decent points finish in Austria. This was more good luck than good management with the demise of 3 cars from the more highly rated teams. That said, you still have to finish and Fernando hung in the and fended off the last lap assault by Marcus Ericcson to take the best finish for the team this season. Speaking of Ericcson, the Sauber team are really on a high. With both cars finishing in the points and Leclerc up to 4 consecutive points finishes, the question is 'Just how good is this kid?' He has really delivered in turning the fortunes of this team around.
Renault had a horrible last weekend and will be looking for a substantial improvement as are Toro Rosso. With their Honda power unit, they seem to have speed but the race pace is still somewhat off. Sure Pierre Gasley has had some points finishes but the car just isn't as consistent as it needs to be.
Force India are still sort of there but with so many teams now contending for those few mid field points, it is down to the balance of the cars on race day.
Williams are still really struggling. There were moments in the last event where there were subtle signs of improvement but they are still so far off the pace. The drivers are giving it all their worth as could be seen by Stroll making it through to Q2 on Saturday but there is so much that needs to be done.

So, these are my meanderings. Is there anything you want to say?

The session started off quietly with all teams doing their Friday programs. A few small offs and then, around the 60 minute mark, Grosjean and his Haas failed to make it through turn 1. Damage was substantial and the chassis was severely damaged. This damage will require a replacement chassis and he was ruled out of practice 2.
Near the end of the session, Max Verstappen appeared to have a gearbox failure which brought a premature end to his runs.

Romain Grosjean was unable to take part in FP2 due to the damage incurred to his chassis in his crash in FP1.
Max Verstappen managed to lose his Red Bull and ended up in the barriers. The car suffered damage to the right rear corner.
Pierre Gasley pulled off the track with mechanical gremlins.
Again small offs occurred in the session with minimal damage to the cars undertray.

18	1:30.004	Stoffel Vandoorne McLaren
19	1:30.050	Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso
20	No Time Brendon Hartley Toro Rosso
Talking point of this session has to be Hartley's crash. Coming into the braking area at the end of Brooklands, the left front suspension just seemed to disintegrate. The gravel trap really did little as the front wheel held the car above the gravel and Hartley went into the barrier. Hartley walked away without injury but this component failure then impacted on Gasly's session as the team went about investigating just why the failure occurred.

19	No Time Lance Stroll Williams
Following his crash in FP3, Hartley and his Toro Rosso took no part in qualifying.
The Williams terrible season continued at their home grand prix with Stroll's car becoming unstable under brakes at the end on Brooklands and ending up in the gravel trap. There was no damage but, due to causing a red flag stoppage, took no further part in the session.
Sirotkin's Williams also had a similar incident however he did manage to drive through the trap and return to the pits.
Renault also suffered with Sainz failing to make it out of Q1 and Hunkenberg stuck in Q2.
Q1 and the battle for pole was sensational with Hamilton just beating Vettel by .04 seconds after Vettel held the upper had after their first runs in the session. Kimi Raikkonen was a further .06 seconds further back.
