This is the last weekend before the summer hiatus when teams have a little time before the next event to fine tune their latest updates.

What to expect?
Ferrari were strong here last year taking both the top steps on the podium with Lewis taking the bottom step.
Will this happen again?
My gut tells me that Ferrari are on another level this season and, if they can make the top steps with last season's car, they can do it again.
The big questions are where will the Red Bulls finish. Yes, they are still slower on the straights but they are quick through the rest of the circuit. I expect the Daniel Ricciardo will again face some grid penalties however this has not been disclosed. So, will young Max be able to do something to upset the Mercedes duo? That drag strip to turn 1 will hinder much of his efforts but, should he be able to hang on the outside of turn 1, he will be on the inside of turn 2 and then it will be a case of 'Catch me if you can!'
Next should be the Haas and they are getting closer to the pace of the Red Bulls. I would be looking over my shoulder if they were gridded behind me. I can't imagine Romain Grosjean having a successive bad race so both he and Magnussen should be somewhere around here.
The same goes for the Renaults. Nico Hulkenberg had a great home GP and Sainz should again be back on the pace.
The Force India's are also showing a burst of speed so this should take care of the top 12. I do expect Ricciardo to be somewhere around 8th at the end of the race.
Sauber have been the surprise packet this season and I am impressed with their progress. Yes, the kid Charles Leclerc has scored most of their points but Marcus Ericsson's finish in the points may be the nudge that he needed to get his season back on track.
The last teams should be McLaren, Toro Rosso and then Williams.

Mind you, these are my thoughts. What happens on Sunday will either tell you if I am psychic or a fool.

20	1:20.697	Marcus Ericsson Sauber
A fairly interesting session with many teams pushing too hard too early, many locking up into turn 1 and ruining a set of tyres.
Marcus Ericsson probably had the most interesting session with a couple of spins and damaging the floor on his second.
Nico Hulkenberg had, what looked to be, and electrical systems shutdown but the video sounded a bit more catastrophic than that.

All Ferrari teams are carrying tributes to Ferrari/Fiat/Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne who passed away this week.

Big news overnight was that Force India had been placed in the hands of the administrators. Rumour is that there are some interested parties looking towards the purchase of the team.

It was a difficult session for Mercedes with both cars spinning at the turn 6 & 7 chicane. Late in the session, Valtteri Bottas lost his Mercedes an ended up against the barrier. The car was driven away, chched in the pits and returned to the circuit. Lewis spun earlier with no contact.

Q1 started under the threat of rain. Teams all ventured out to set a time before it came.
Q2 and the rain started. The early runners had the best of the conditions and these deteriorated throughout the remainder of the session.
Q3 and the expected dominance of the Ferrari didn't occur. This sets it up for an exciting Sunday.
