2007 IRL Indy Pro Series Thread......

Postby mlittle » Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:38 pm

Just as in the ChampCar forum there is a thread for the series' Atlantic Championship, here in the IRL forum there will indeed be a thread for their feeder series, the Indy Pro Series.....

Started in 2003, the IPS is the top-rung on the "Road to Indy", so to speak, and despite the seeming paucity of IPS grads in the IndyCar Series, the grids have been healthier than over in the Atlantics' in recent memory, and that should begin to yield dividends over the long run.

Here are the series' past champions from 2002-present......
2002--A.J. Foyt, IV
2003--Mark Taylor
2004--Thiago Medieros
2005--Wade Cunningham
2006--Jay Howard

More information to be added to this thread during the off-season............

TGR to field Indy Pro Series team.........

Postby mlittle » Thu Dec 21, 2006 10:37 am

Target/Ganassi Racing, having seen what the benefits of having an IRL Indy Pro Series team(such as AGR's IPS team) can do, has decided to throw their hat into the ring by fielding a 2-car IPS team with drivers Chris Festa and Pablo Perez; here is the transcript of today's media teleconference.

Postby mlittle » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:52 am

Add one more hopeful to the list of rising contenders for the 2007 IRL Indy Pro Series, as Andersen Racing announced earlier today that Morristown, NJ native Andrew Prendeville will be one of the team's two drivers for the season; Prendeville's career highlights are:
~~2001}began racing single-seaters at the Bertil Roos Racing School
~~2002}competed in the SCCA Formula Continental Series; won the 2002 SCCA runoffs at Mid-Ohio
~~2004}competed in the Cooper Tires FF2000 series; finished 2nd overall with three victories and nine podiums

Two bits of interest from the IRL Indy Pro Series this week...........

~~Cheever Racing announced that it will field at least one IPS entry in 2007 for former Formula 3 driver Richard Antinucci; here is a brief bio on Antinucci......
--began racing karts from 1989-1997, winning numerous times
--competed in Italian Formula Ford in 1998 with one win that year
--competed in both British and European Formula Renualt series in 2000-2001; biggest win was in European Formula Renault at Spa-Francorchamps in 2001
--competed in British Formula 3 from 2002-2003, winning the Formula 3 World Cup championship in 2003
--competed in Japanese Formula 3 in 2004 w/1 win and 12 podiums to his credit; also competed at the Macau F3 race, setting the fastest lap of the race
--competed in the Formula 3 Euroseries in 2006, finishing fifth overall w/one win, two runner-ups and one third; competed at the Macau F3 race, finishing 2nd

~~Guthrie Racing, which won twice in the IPS in 2006, has formed a partnership with Colorado businessman Will Lee and has renamed itself U.S. Pro Racing, fielding 2 entries for drivers Tom Wieringa and Sean Guthrie

Kenn Hardley Racing signs Simpson for 2007 season...........

Postby mlittle » Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:16 am

Kenn Hardley Racing announced earlier today that they will be campaigning South African racer Stephen Simpson in the IRL Indy Pro Series for 2007. Simpson, born in Poole, England but having spent most of his life calling Cape Town, South Africa home, has competed in both the A1GP series and the ChampCar Atlantic Championship over the past year. Here are some quotes from those involved.......

Kenn Hardley, Owner, Kenn Hardley Racing:
We are elated to have Stephen drive with us for the 2007 season. Stephen is a young talent who we are very impressed with and who has driven in many types of open wheel race cars around the world. I don't believe it will take him long to acclimate himself to the Indy Pro Series or our team. The 24 car has finished second and fourth the last two years with Jeff Simmons and Bobby Wilson, and I believe this will be another banner year for us with Stephen in our car.
*--Simmons finished 2nd in 2005, Wilson 4th in 2006

Stephen Simpson, Kenn Hardley Racing:
I'm very excited about the chance to race in the Indy Pro Series and to join Kenn Hardley Racing for the 2007 season. They are a great team to be with and we will be pushing hard to run up front all year.
