Matos tops Open Test at the Brickyard.................

Post by mlittle » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:46 am

Indy Lights teams and drivers took to the Brickyard Friday for a 1-day Open Test; despite having to wait out two delays for rain, drivers completed over 1800 laps on the 2.5-miles of central Indiana blacktop and at the end of the day, it was an oval newcomer, Andretti-Green Racing's Raphael Matos, who sat atop the scoring pylon..........

Top-10 from the Open Test w/some driver quotes from the Test.........
1} Raphael Matos, Andretti-Green Racing............................47.659 sec/188.843 mph
2} J.R. Hildebrand, RLR-Andersen Racing.............................47.668 sec/188.805 mph

J.R. Hildebrand, RLR-Andersen Racing:
Just walking into this place, the history just hits you like a ton of bricks. It's like no other track; its' not like anywhere else I've experienced. With my road course background, it felt like a road course with four big corners. A driver really has to drive around this place; its' requires skill and not just setup. It was a good test; I'm pleased with how it went and how good the car was.
James Davison, Sam Schmidt Mtrspts.:
It was a really, really incredible experience driving on the oval at Indianapolis. I've raced on the road course here; for my first time (on the oval) it was really good. The team and I worked really well and were able to have a really competitive car and be competitive (all day). We've had a difficult start to the season in terms of results, but we've been fast, so it was important to get this on paper and rebuild some momentum.
Cyndie Allemann, American Spirit Racing:
We did a lot of work today. We tried many setups for the race and they were all very good. We did a great job together. (ABOUT DRIVING AT INDY)I was impressed to know that I was coming to drive at Indianapolis. In Europe, you hear a lot about the (Indianapolis) 500 because its' such a famous race. It was good to run around this racetrack today.
