Midland Group takes over Jordan Grand Prix

Post by Ed » Tue Jan 25, 2005 12:43 am

It is finally official. The Midland Group will take over the Jordan Grand Prix team.

Intially the Midland Group wanted to enter F1 as a new team but they've now been convinced that buying out Jordan would be a better option.

The team will still be called Jordan this year and run the Toyota engine. The Midland Group will release further details on their plans for 2006 in due course.

The Jordan team competed first in Formula 1 in 1991 finishing 5th in the Championship and scoring 13 points. The team peaked in 99 when the team finished 3rd in the Championship and won 2 races. The team then declined and has been struggling for the past two years finishing 9th in the Championship mainly due to financial reasons.

This season will be Jordan's 15th season in Formula 1 and the last under that name. It is a sad fact of Formula 1 today, small teams run by passionate individuals can't survive!

It is a shame indeed.

The face of Formula 1 continues to change and now more and more corporations rule the sport.

I admire Eddie Jordan for all the work he's done with the Jordan team and in Formula 1 and good luck to him with his future endeavours.

Enjoy the Jordans for the last time this season!

Good for Russia and the russian! :welcome:
Alex Shnaider: "After our victories will sound the Russian hymn" said in Red Square... Hopefully it won't take him too long...

I think at least 3 years, not counting 2005 (and that being hyper-optimistic) :)

Depends on what happens by 2008, with the threatened manufacturers breakaway, doesn't it :?:
