Due to terrorist threats against the 2008 Dakar Rally by Al-Qaeda linked terrorist groups within Mauritania, officials with the event organizing group, ASO, after consultations with both French and American authorities, have decided to cnacel the 2008 running of the Paris-Dakar Rally......however, officials also noted that future runnings of the Paris-Dakar rally will be held after consulations with security officials along the proposed 2009 event route.
