Testing times are so hard to read, so confusing and so unreliable.

Just before this test at Jerez, Sebastian Vettel set what was considered to be a stunning time of 1:19.055 and he was over half a second quicker than anyone else. No one came close to that time in any of the other days.

Now Alonso and Barrichello and Button have smashed that time so what does that mean ?
I suspect that the hotter track conditions were a major reason but I also suspect that many teams did not test in low fuel configuration at the same time Vettel did.
It will be interesting to see what McLaren will do this test as they are working round the clock to get their car right and ready. The started a day later than the rest and are staying 2 more days after the rest!

Alonso's time of a 1:18.343 is the quickest so far in a 2009 spec car.

Nico Rosberg covered the most number of laps with 123.

The Brawn GP drivers swapped at midday and Jenson Button who took over in the afternoon had a gearbox problem which limited his running to just 12 laps.

The F1 pre-season testing came to an end on Thursday with Williams and McLaren concluding their testing.

Kazuki Nakajima in the Williams set the fastest time of the day as well as for a 2009 spec car at Jerez with a 1:17.494. Heikki Kovalainen who was the only other driver on the track set a 1:17.946.

Nakajima covered 102 laps while Kovalainen covered 84 laps.

This marks the end of F1 testing this year as the new rules effectively ban testing 7 days prior to the first F1 race until the end of the year.
