This weekend sees the return to Silverstone for the running of the 72nd British Grand Prix. Fans will flock to the circuit to see if their hero, Lewis Hamilton, can achieve greatness by equaling the greats, Jim Clark and Alain Prost, in winning his 5th British GP.
England is also home to many Formula 1 teams so expect the best from them all.
Standing in Lewis' way will be the formidable duo of team mate, Valtteri Bottas, and Sebastian Vettel. Surprisingly, Seb has only won one British GP in all his attempts. Kimi, also a one time winner, could be in the running however I feel that he has conceded that he is second in the pecking order in Team Ferrari.
This track could also lend itself to the superb handling Red Bulls. It is just that slightly underpowered Renault engine may not be enough.
Will Hass continue their good form? Will Force India again get both cars into the top 10? Which Williams cars will turn up?
These questions and many more will be answered on Sunday.

FP1 has concluded and nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Mercedes and Williams did their fastest laps on the soft tyres, all other teams were on the super softs.
Vettel flat spotted a set of tyres with a spin but this set will be returned to Pirelli as his Friday return set.

It looks like Bottas is about to suffer the same fate as Lewis in Austria in having to take a gearbox change. This will result in a 5 place grid penalty.

At this stage, it looks like both Alonso and Bottas will carry 5 grid place penalties into the start of tomorrows grand prix.

Ricciardo suffered a turbo failure early in Q1. This, combined with his 5 place penalty for a gearbox change, will result in him starting in P19 ahead of Alonso who is also carrying many penalties for component changes.
Bottas also carries a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change which will drop him to P9.
Alonso tops Q1! In a masterstroke, Alonso changes from intermediates to supersofts at the last possible moment allowing him to start his final lap a fraction of a second before the end of Q1. This charge by Alonso then dropped Stroll out of P15 into the group to not progress into Q2.
Hamilton came under investigation in Q3 for a possible block on Grosjean. This was later dismissed.
The grid should look like Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Perez, Ocon, Vandoorne, Bottas, Grosjean, Palmer, Kvyat, Sainz, Massa, Stroll, Magnussen, Wehrlein, Ericsson, Ricciardo, Alonso.

Well, that was some climax to an entertaining race. Both Ferrari's running out of tyres near the end, Toro Rosso's taking each other out and a superb charge from the rear of field by Daniel Ricciardo to finish 5th. It could have been so much better considering he was up to 10th before his excursion back to 18th when he resumed his chase.
No points for guessing who my driver of the day was.

What a race!
This is how all F1 races should be, wheel to wheel racing, plenty of overtaking and drivers, cars and tyres being pushed to the limit!
Hamilton drove a stunning race, no one could touch him all weekend, no mistakes and handling pressure despite this being his 4th win at Silverstone in a row and the 5th overall. He gets my driver of the day.
Bottas did well too and pushed Vettel and forced him into that huge lockup that certainly contributed to his tyre failure. He was also helped into second when Raikkonen's tyre failed!
Ricciardo was brilliant as well, starting in 19th and finishing 5th! He probably did the most overtaking of everyone.
The championship fight is down to just one point but it feels that Mercedes have the upper hand again. Lets hope Ferrari can keep up the fight!

I agree with that assessment. Ferrari have had a few relatively weak races in a row now (one caused by misfortune in the UK, another by Vettel being a silly sod in Azerbaijan. Cost himself a bundle of points there). I want things to stay tight, so a better Ferrari result would be good. Corners are slower than Silverstone so that should help out the Prancing Horse in Hungary.
