17 February: Barcelona Test Summary - Red Bull Racing confirms positive impressions

Over the past three days Red Bull Racing continued its preparations for the start of the Formula 1 season at the official test sessions on the Circuit de Catalunya north of Barcelona.

Two RB1s were used on all days, and the #3 back-up car was given its first shakedown.

The tests in Barcelona continue the positive impressions from Jerez de la Frontera. The main insights are: the RB1s basic technical package works without major problems, and the engines reliability and stability, both very important for the 2005 season, have been confirmed.

The three drivers were able to complete all tests as planned. The tests ranged from individual qualifying runs to a simulated Grand Prix over 66 laps including pit stops.

Christian Horner, Sporting Director Red Bull Racing: "Barcelona was another positive test for both the team and the new RB1. During the three days of testing we have completed a considerable amount of mileage and have gained a good initial understanding of the new car. The car has proved to be reasonably reliable and following a final test at Silverstone next Monday we are looking forward to Red Bull Racing's debut race in Melbourne."

Gnther Steiner, Technical Director Red Bull Racing: We can really be satisfied with the tests in Spain. The RB1 proved to be reliable and technically mature. Todays engine failure might have been unpleasant, but in fact it was inevitable concerning the state of the tests. Better now than on a GP weekend. When - if not in the tests can you go to an engines limits? All in all, we can go to Australia full of confidence!

Red Bull Racing will announce the second driver for the beginning of the season tomorrow, Friday.
