9 April: Rain in Spain The Red Bull Racing team has just completed a three day test at the Catalunya circuit, near Barcelona in Spain. David Coulthard was on duty for the first two days (6/7 April) while in preparation for his F1 race debut in the forthcoming San Marino Grand Prix, Tonio Liuzzi got behind the wheel on the third day (8 April.) “The test went well and we are happy with the progress we made, covering a lot of ground, in what was the first major test session since Melbourne,” said Sporting Director, Christian Horner. We got a lot of good work done which should put us in good shape for Imola. Part of the testing involved trying the latest rubber from Michelin and Horner also revealed that the engineers had been working on “control systems,” which is every F1 team boss’ way of not really telling what the team was up to! The English-based teams usually head for Barcelona to get some good sunny weather to work in, but the day Liuzzi drove was badly affected by rain. Nevertheless, he got through plenty of work and the team also made sure he was fully up to speed on pit-stop protocol in preparation for his first race with the team.
