11 May: Paul Ricard Testing, Day 1 Franck Montagny, R25-05, 152 laps Heikki Kovalainen, R25-03, 213 laps The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team today began a three-day test working in preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix. Franck Montagny and Heikki Kovalainen were on duty for the team, conducting performance and endurance tyre testing, evaluating new chassis developments and completing set-up programmes for the unique characteristics of the Principality street circuit. Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk commented: "We had a very successful first day of testing, breaking our own single-day mileage record with more than 750 km run on Heikki's car. Both drivers were very happy with the car in its Monaco configuration, and we got encouraging results on the tyres, as well as the set-up adaptations required for the bumpy street surface and the new parts on the car. We didn't experience any major problems during the day, and will continue on the same path tomorrow. The rain held off today, and we hope that will remain the case in the coming days, although we may be forced to adapt our schedule according to the forecasts."
