Eastern Creek Dropped

Post by rah » Wed Sep 07, 2005 9:55 am

Just read that in 06 there will be no more Eastern Creek. Bahrain will be the race to replace it. In 06 Oran Park will be the only Sydney race, no idea what will happen in 07.
Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.

I understand that there will be no Oran Park as the circuit will be sold to developers. Eastern Creek will have one round instead of two and Bahrain is locked in for Nov 22-24, following the Symonds Plains round.
Bahrain has just been confirmed, and the contract is for the next 5 years.

Rah the article stating that Oran park will host the round has appeared in "The Age" and that fact is also stated on the " Official Bigpond" site. It also states that Eastern Creek "has struggled to attract crowds" when in fact it has had record crowds each year for the last few. I suspect a journalist as about to get his backside modified about now

Incredibly, to my mind, the Bahrain round will take place on the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, "to repect the religious beliefs of the population", according to Tony Cochrane
I think I will wait for some facts to emerge before making further comment.

Yeah, I read that also. I just find it hard to believe, when Oran Park has not pulled the crowds...I have been there on the Saturday along with all of 2 to 3 thousand others, whereas E Creek has 20,000 plus, the cars are outgrowing the circuit, Avesco has hosted very successful meetings at E. creek for the last 2 years, Oran Park is notorious for overcharging, the Bike Racers have been told " no more" Oran Park have been offside with Avesco for 3 years,...still a large brown envelope can change many a decision
I am attempting to find out from the ARDC at the Creek, I will get back to you asap.

Good decision as far as I am concerned. i don't bother going to the creek, it is a terrible track for spectators.

Not sure when they are starting construction of the Oran Park replacement but the land is there and vacant. Also the owner wants another track similar to Oran not just another boring flat track. All the new pits at Oran were also made to be easily moved to the next site.

Ok, it appears that politics reign supreme. Someone at ARDC stopped crying long enough to answer the phone.
Firstly, what we have is correct..Oran Park will host the ONLY round of the V8 Supercars in NSW, next year at least.
Secondly, apart from rumour, the only confirmation the ARDC (Eastern Creek) have of this is the official calender launch last night, they still have not been informed officially that this is so by AVESCO (Tony Cochrone).
Thirdly, stand by to pay around $100.00 ( imho) to attend Oran Park on the THURSDAY, and god only knows how much for a three day pass, I'm tipping it will be considerably more than Bathurst.
At least it won't be too crowded when you queue at one of the two fastfood outlets or either of the toilets.
All I can say is "What the Hell is going on?"

I heard Suttons Forest, but it seems a little far away for my liking.

Wherever it is I just hope they put more entry and exit roads. I have spent so many hours trying to get out of Oran that it borders on ridiculous.

OK the carrier pigeon has just returned, looking cold, tired and a bit tatty.
The rumour mill has it that the two dairy farmers (read multi millionaires, its a long time since either pulled a teat), have a deal to build a state of the art facility at or near Suttons Forest to host the next few Supercar rounds from 2007, and the A1gp and are looking at the Australian GP, and Moto GP in 2008. Remember that Melbourne has signed with the FIA for 2008 and beyond, and these guys are thinking about the possible F1 split.I must stress that this is pure speculation from a guy who quote "knows the guys, and they told him he will be racing his Bike at Suttons Forest in 2007."

Now wouldn't that be nice. Bringing all those wonderful events to Syd. I might even be bothered to get of my a#% and travel the hour or so to get there.

The carrier pigeon stressed that it is very much a rumour, based on the fact that by getting next years only round they will build the new track with a guarantee of the next 5 NSW rounds (being the only round NSW will have)

Bathurst is an enduro round. May God have mercy on the soul of anyone foolish enough to try and mess with Bathurst after the 2 litre fiasco.
Which reminds me, I think it is next year that it returns to the long weekend

With Shanghai in the balance, Eastern Creek may well have a round this year after all.
