Hmmm that would be one of my neighbours...we also spent time watching the praying mantises climbing up from the bedroom window from the kowhai trees

Are you perhaps thinking of "wettas" large brown, spikey cockroachy, fiercesome looking creatures, absolutely guaranteed to strike terror into the 3 y.o. childs heart ( can't remember how to spell the name, but don't confuse it with "weckas") :lol:
