2007 Indy Racing League Schedule Thread

Post by mlittle » Thu Jul 27, 2006 1:55 pm

Merger talks aside, one topic of interest(besides silly season!) is what the 2007 IRL IndyCar Series schedule will be. Here is the current schedule......

26 March} Homestead
2 April} St. Petersburg
22 April} Motegi, Japan
28 May} Indianapolis
4 June} Watkins Glen
10 June} Texas
24 June} Richmond
2 July} Kansas
15 July} Nashville
23 July} Milwaukee
30 July} Michigan
13 August} Kentucky
27 August} Infineon
10 Sept.} Chicagoland

Here is my guess(at the moment) as to what the 2007 schedule will look like........(dates TBA)
March} Homestead
April} St. Pete, Motegi, Kansas
May} Indy
June} Milwaukee, Texas, Iowa(?), Richmond
July} Watkins Glen(?), Nashville, Michigan
August} Watkins Glen(?), Kentucky, Infineon
Sept.} Iowa(?), Chicagoland

The Mile returns to its' traditional post-Indy date

Post by mlittle » Fri Aug 11, 2006 1:04 pm

:bounce: :bouncey: :bouncec:    :bouncest: :bounceg: :burnout: :burnout:

From 1947-1995, the first race in NA motorsports following "the Greatest Spectacle in Racing" involved a trip to the legendary Milwaukee Mile, and in 2007, that tradition returns, as IRL and Mile officials made if official; the Mile will host an IndyCar Series event the weekend of 2-3 June, 2007. Here are a few quotes from those involved..........

Brian Barnhart, President/Chief Operating Officer, Indy Racing League:
The Milwaukee Mile and Indy-style racing have a long and storied history. For the last three years, we've been able to showcase our sport to the race fans in Wisconsin, and now we can complete the circle by reuniting the cars and stars of the Indianapolis 500-mile race with the traditional post-Indy date at Milwaukee.
Andy Randall, President, The Milwaukee Mile:
We are excited for our loyal fans to be able to bring the stars of the Indianapolis 500 back to the Mile the first weekend in June. We are proud to continue this strong racing tradition. This multi-year agreement allows us to begin building toward an exciting June 2-3, 2007 event weekend starting today.
Craig Stoehr, Chairman, Wisconsin State Fairgrounds:
As new promoters entering the 2006 event, we were quite impressed with the cooperation and effort put forth by the Indy Racing League staff towards the success of the ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt Indy 225 event last month. On behalf of our fans, we thank Tony George, Brian Barnhart and the IndyCar teams and drivers for this opportunity--not only with respect to moving back to the traditional date, but for willingness to enter into a three-year agreement with the Mile.

AOWR returns to the Motor City.............

Post by mlittle » Sat Sep 30, 2006 11:37 pm

Another part of the IRL's 2007 schedule was put into place Friday as series officials, Detroit city officials and Team Penske owner Roger Penske announced that the IndyCar Series will be making its' debut in Detroit on the weekend of 31 Aug.-2 Sept. at the Belle Isle street circuit formerly used by CART from 1992-2001. Here are some quotes from those involved.......

Kwame Kilpatrick, Mayor of the City of Detroit:
This is a great day for the city of Detroit as the Motor City welcomes back one of its' exciting summertime events. Detroit has a rich history of being one of America's best sports towns and excels at hosting large scale events like the Grand Prix.
Roger Penske, Owner, Team Penske:
We saw with the Super Bowl earlier this year that large events can be a catalyst to move other projects forward in the city. Unlike other race events held in Detroit, money earned from the Detroit/Belle Isle Grand Prix will go back into a fund earmarked for Belle Isle Park improvements and maintenance for (Detroit) residents to enjoy all year round.
Brian Barnhart, Indy Racing League President/Chief Operating Officer:
We are excited about racing in Detroit. The island course will prove to be a worthy challenge for our drivers while at the same time providing fans with an exciting experience.

Another date confirmed for 2007...........

Post by mlittle » Thu Oct 12, 2006 1:34 pm

Officials from the IRL and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course announced earlier today that NA open-wheel racing is returning to the Buckeye State as the IRL IndyCar Series will race there 20-22 July 2007, on the same weekend as the American LeMans Series. Here are quotes from some of those involved............

Michelle Trueman-Gajoch, President of Truesports, Inc.:
Truesports, Incorporated has a long history of hosting the best road racing has to offer. Aligning the American Le Mans Series and the IndyCar Series reinforces our commitment to that initiative and our significant coustomer base. Further, it is important to recognize that without the cooperation of the American Le Mans Series and the interest of the IndyCar Series, none of this would have been feasible. On behalf of our entire team, we are grateful to both.
Brian Barnhart, President, Indy Racing League:
We are thrilled to be adding Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to the IndyCar Series schedule and look forward to bringing our series to a state rich in motorsports tradition. Mid-Ohio has a deep championship heritage that connects champions like Foyt, Andretti, Rahal, Rutherford, Unser and others with the current stars and teams of the IndyCar Series.
Thus, the schedule now looks as follows...............

24 March 2007--Homestead(1.5-mile oval; night race)
1 April 2007--St. Petersburg(1.9-mile street circuit)
21 April 2007--Motegi, Japan(1.5-mile oval)
29 April 2007--Kansas(1.5-mile oval)
27 May 2007--Indianapolis(2.5-mile oval)
3 June 2007--Milwaukee(1-mile concrete oval)
9 June 2007--Texas(1.5-mile oval/night race)
24 June 2007--Iowa(.875-mile oval)
30 June 2007--Richmond(.75-mile oval; night race)
8 July 2007--Watkins Glen(3.34-mile road course)
