On paper, there are two concrete ovals on the IndyCar Series schedule......the Milwaukee Mile and Nashville Superspeedway. But of course, no one races on mere paper; Milwaukee is a billiard-smooth concrete oval, while Nashville is best described as a "rolling cheese grater". Here, it isn't aero grip or horsepower that determines the victor; its' mechanical grip, camber, castor and so on. Find the right balance of mechanical grip and you could find yourself in Victory Lane clutching a custom Gibson guitar as a victory trophy.

News and Notes from Music City USA(Thursday)

Post by mlittle » Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:58 pm

Couple of pre-race news items as the weekend begins in Music City USA.....

~~(1)Viso to miss Nashville race due to mumps..........yes, that's right, the young Venezulean driver with CTE-HVM Racing will miss this weekend's Firestone Indy 200 because of the mumps. Series officials held a hasty mid-week tele-conference to announce this, after informing the Indiana State Health Department and the federal Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Let's all wish young E.J. a speedy recovery! :alright:

~~(2)PT close to deal w/Vision Racing to race at Edmonton, other road-course venues...........going into this new era of "mergification", one driver noticeably absent was AOW's resident enfant terrible, West Hill, Ontario's Paul Tracy. Throughout the bulk of the 2008 IndyCar Series season, PT's been in negotiations w/Tony George and Vision Racing to run some road-course events in the latter half of the 2008 season. Well, according to this National Post article, PT may just have his ride booked for this year.

3 in a row for the Iceman at Nashville..........

Post by mlittle » Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:27 am

(Mod's note......when the next edition of Guitar Hero is released, maybe they should put Scott Dixon's picture on it..........   )

Anyway, since 2006, the 1.33-mile concrete Nashville SuperSpeedway has the private domain of Target/Ganassi's Scott Dixon, who won a rain-shortened Firestone Indy 200 and expanded his points lead with six races remaining on the calendar. Right before the mid-point of the originally-scheduled 200 lap race, Dixon used the slower lapped car of Mario Moraes as a pick to pass then-leader Tony Kanaan and the race pretty much was Dixon's in hand, especially after the rains came, ending the race after 171 laps.

Top-10 from Dixon's Domain(a/k/a Nashville)................
1st} #9 Scott Dixon, 171 laps**
2nd} #10 Dan Wheldon
3rd} #3 Helio Castroneves
4th} #11 Tony Kanaan
5th} #7 Danica Patrick
6th} #4 Vitor Meira
7th} #15 Buddy Rice
8th} #20 Ed Carpenter
9th} #14 Darren Manning
10th}(R)#19 Mario Moraes
**--race was red-flagged due to rain; top-10 positions are from lap 165, when the caution was displayed for moisture on-track
