You rock, mlittle!!!

:yourock:

Where is the television coverage of the IRL this year? ALMS has a better TV package (not that I'm complaining about that, mind you)!!!

Thanks, RE; I'm humbled by the kind words. :)

As for the IRL's television package.........after a long relationship with ESPN, the series last October packed up and headed over to Versus for a 10-yr., $60 million contract to cover the series(minimum 12 races on Versus, with the remaining races on ABC Sports).

Depending on one's prespective, it's a "glass half-full, glass half-empty" thing. On the one hand, the coverage Versus has provided is worlds better than what the mother ship or their curmudgeons provided(a/k/a ESPN, ESPN-2 & ESPN Classic); the broadcast crew(Bob Jenkins, Robbie Buhl and Jon Beekhuis up top; Jack Arute, Robbie Floyd, Lindy Thackston on pitlane) are pretty good and the broadcasts are well-covered(I think Versus refers to it as 'super-sizing" the fans). On the other hand, Versus has fewer viewers than ESPN's family of networks, and that hurts in ratings(.25 in St. Pete, .52 in Long Beach.....). There's a perverse irony in the LB ratings, though; the LB race was on ESPN-2 last year and they couldn't hit 0.5[and that's with more viewers than Versus..........  ]

My take.......the hard-core fans have followed the IRL over to Versus and love the coverage; they've just got to get the casual fan, the channel-surfer, to watch. Do that, and ESPN's treatment of the series over the years could be a distant memory........
