Observations from the Far East.....

Post by mlittle » Sun Apr 23, 2006 9:47 am

It has definitely been one of the more interesting race weekends in the IndyCar Series, and here are the observations from the runway at Narita as we begin the very, very, very long flight back from Narita to LAX........

1}Simply dominating, Spiderman! It can't be said too many times, but here goes.....how dominating was Helio Castroneves' victory at Motegi.....
Here's how; he led 189 of 200 laps, losing the lead only on pitstops as the field cycled through. The remaining 11 laps were led, respectively, by.....Dan Wheldon(2 laps), Tomy Kanaan(1 lap), Scott Dixon(4 laps), Tomas Scheckter(2 laps), and Vitor Meira(2 laps).

2}The Charge of the Panoz Brigade continues.......when the grid for Saturday's race was set by entrant points, the loudest groans could be heard from the Rahal-Letterman Racing paddock as their three drivers would start 14th(Patrick), 18th(Rice) and 20th(Simmons). While Simmons' day ended rather early, the other two drivers fought through the pack to take top-10 finishes each(5th-Rice, 8th-Patrick), which should give the team some momentum heading into the 500.

3}Penske 2, Ganassi 1. While walking through the paddock at race's end, I noticed a sign a fan had left, saying, "Penske 2, Ganassi 1", which seems rather appropriate, considering that Wheldon(w/TGR) won at Homestead, and Castroneves(w/MTP) won at St. Pete and Motegi. Now, if only Horish, Jr. and Dixon can join the fray...... 8) 8)

Now that the first three rounds are out of the way..........the eyes of the NA motorsports world now begin to focus on 2.5-miles of central Indiana blacktop, crowned......with a yard of bricks. The next race on the IRL IndyCar Series calendar......"The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the 90th Indianapolis 500.
The Sci-Fi Station Come by and visit when you get the chance. :)
The Wayward Tarheel I'm even in the blogosphere....
