2007 CCWS Rd. 9--San Jose Grand Prix

Post by mlittle » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:31 am

Once derided as one of the worst street-circuits on the series calendar, San Jose event officials went to work on the track in 2006, and it paid dividends, with a vastly improved track layout and more sightlines. This year's San Jose Grand Prix is expected to be better than the 2006 one, as more improvements have been made to the track layout. At 1.446 or so miles, it's avery short street circuit, but as seen in the past, the concrete canyons take no prisoners.

Dalziel to miss San Jose race w/broken collarbone

Post by mlittle » Wed Jul 25, 2007 12:59 pm

Pacific Coast Motorsports driver Ryan Dalziel will miss the upcoming San Jose Grand Prix due to a broken collarbone suffered while bike riding earlier this week; team officials announced that Scotsman Dalziel will visit Indianapolis-area Dr. Terry Trammell, who will advise both PCM and ChampCar officials as to whether Dalziel will be fit to race at Road America, the next event on the series calendar. However, both groups of officials stressed that Dalziel should be well enough to compete in Europe when the series returns to the Continent for the races at Assen and Zolder.

Earlier today, Pacific Coast officials announced that Mario Dominguez will be driving for the injured Ryan Dalziel at this weekend's San Jose Grand Prix. For Dominguez, it will be his third start at San Jose; ironically, PCM will be the third team Dominguez has driven for in the 2007 season(following 3 races w/Forsythe and last week w/PKV).

Gommendy cleared to drive in San Jose.........

Post by mlittle » Fri Jul 27, 2007 12:20 pm

After consultations with ChampCar Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chris Pinderski and noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Terry Trammell, PKV Racing driver Tristan Gommendy has been given the ok to drive in this weekend's ChampCar race, the San Jose Grand Prix. Follow-up tests on the thoracic vertebrae injury Gommendy suffered in Edmonton showed less injury than noted this past weekend, prompting the all-clear from series medical personnel.

Weekend Notebook, part 1..............

Post by mlittle » Sun Jul 29, 2007 7:39 am

Now, where is everyone? Let's see................
--Julian, once again, has managed to get himself lost on Alcatraz........
--Most of the other mods are touring the Sonoma wine country(I'm assuming it's so that the VIP Tower'll be well-stocked..........)
--And I'm in the heart of Tech Central, a/k/a San Jose, for this weekend's ChampCar San Jose Grand Prix presented by RedBack Networks

Anyway, here's some items of interest from the Weekend Notebook..........
--From first to last to first! The last ten minutes of Friday's QS-1 must've seemed like a roller-coaster for NHL Racing's Sebastien Bourdais; first he was P1, then in a moment, that time fell all the way to P17; only a last-lap flyer got SeaBass back to provisional pole

--The busiest place on the track? Remember turn 6 from 2006, when Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani got together on-track(minutes before fighting on pitlane......    )? Well......most everyone on the grid for this weekend's race has seen the turn 6 escape road at least once so far(and the weekend's not over yet!)

--It only hurts when I breathe!! It's been an interesting few weeks for PKV's Tristan Gommendy; last week, he has to sit out the Edmonton race with a back injury..........he gets clearance to race this weekend, only to learn he cracked a rib at Edmonton.
Worse, San Jose's a bumpy street circuit compared to the airport circuit last week in Edmonton.......    When asked how he felt, Gommendy replied, "It's not my back; it's the rib that I cracked, and this circuit has some really big bumps. It's not a big deal when I'm belted into my car, but at the end of the session I have trouble getting out of the car." (Mod's note.....if he thinks the circuit's bad, he shoulda' been here back in 2005............    )
