2007 Champ Car World Series Schedule Thread

Post by mlittle » Mon Jul 10, 2006 1:55 pm

Well, its' that time of the year again...time to figure out what the next ywar's ChampCar schedule will look like. According to the geniuses over at ar1.com, here's a proposed schedule............

April(3)--Las Vegas(street), long Beach(street), Houston(street)
May(1)--China(either Zhuhai or Shanghai)
June(2)--Cleveland(road), Portland(road)
July(3)--Toronto(street), Edmonton(road), San Jose(street)
August(2)--Denver(street), Road America(road)
Sept.(2)--both events TBA
October(2)--San Antonio(street), Surfers Paradise(street)
November(2)--Mexico City(street), Phoenix(street)

Notes of interest.......
~~the series likely has bid farewell to ovals(possibly only for a year or two).....Milwaukee has yet to receive a contract offer from ChampCar; rumor has it the Mile will invite the IRL to the early June date, resuming for the first time since 1995 the tradition of Indy, then Milwaukee
~~Monterrey and Montreal are gone; Montreal due to the return of Norman Legault aas promoter for the Circuit Gilles Villenueve(Legault is trying to negotiate a visit by NASCAR's Busch Series to the track; as with last year, the IRL is also interested in the track)
~~other venues that could be added are Assen(which currently hosts a MotoGP event), Otaru, Japan(street circuit), and at least one or two other events as yet unnamed
~~the weeks prior to Memorial Day 2007 will be left open in the event that ChampCar teams decide to compete at Indy for the 500(IMHO, I can't see that occurring if the series drops oval tracks from the schedule)

Quotes from those involved.......
Steve Johnson, President--Champ Car World Series:
We have put together a solid schedule of events for 2007 that will provide great racing for our fans and strong challenges for our teams and drivers. This schedule, combined with the new DP01 and the arrival of new Champ Car teams, gives us great momentum as we build toward a bright future.
France Howard, CEO, FRC-USA, llc.(promoter of Zhuhai, China race):
ChampCar is one of the top international racing series in the world with a focus on driver and team performances and we are proud to bring it to China. The on-track racing resulting from strategies related to pit stos, power-to-pass, tire choice and driver's skill, is surely the most fun. We believe the Chinese racing fans will embrace the full Champ Car World Series and a high number of them will watch each race on television starting next year.
John Clagett, Champ Car VP-Venue Development:
Canadian Champ Car fans are some of our most ardent fans, and we are excited about running three consecutive events in Canada. But our entire schedule is one that all of our fans can be excited about. From exciting new venues to great traditional events, the 2007 Champ Car season will be one to remember.
Jim Freudenberg, Vegas Grand Prix CEO(promoter for both Las Vegas and Phoenix):
We are excited to open the Champ Car season with this new world-class event in Las Vegas. This will be a festival of speed like no other. In a city where first-class events happen every day, we will be expected to maintain that caliber and are prepared to do that. [about Phoenix]We are prepared to end the Champ Car season with another incredible event in Phoenix. Stay tuned to www.grandprixarizona.com to all the exciting announcements this event will be making in the coming months.

Although, according to multiple sources, the official announcement is not until tomorrow, the Indianapolis Star is reporting on its' website(as noted by ar1.com) that ChampCar will be racing at both Assen and Zolder in 2007.
