Catching on Rolex action from last week's racing action at VIR...........

~~In the Daytona Prototype class, Max "the Axe" Angelelli and Jan Magnussen gave SunTrust/Wayne Taylor Racing their first win of the season, holding off a hard-chargin' Krohn Racing entry piloted by "Mad" Max Papis and Colin Braun. However, everyone on-track was driving with very heavy hearts, especially the third-place Brumos Porsche entry of Darren Law and David Donohue, due to the death of Brumos team owner and Grand-Am supporter Bob Snodgrass earlier in the week.

Top five from the DP class...........
DP-1} Jan Magnussen, Max Angelelli...................#10 SunTrust Pontiac/Riley
DP-2} Max Papis, Colin Braun............................#75 Krohn Racing Pontiac/Riley
DP-3} Darren Law, David Donohue....................#58 Brumos Porsche Porsche/Riley
DP-4} Ryan Dalziel, Jean-Francois Dumoulin.......#11 South Coast/SAMAX Pontiac/Riley
DP-5} Jon Fogarty, Alex Gurney........................#99 Gainsco Pontiac/Riley

~~In the GT class, Dirk Werner and Bryce Miller scored their first career Grand-Am Rolex Series win after a late-race pass around the SpeedSource Mazda of Sylvain Tremblay........here are the top-5 from the GT class........
GT-1} Dirk Werner, Bryce Miller........................#87 Marquis Jet/Recaro Porsche 911 GT3
GT-2} Sylvain Tremblay, Nick Ham....................#70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8

I see a South African connection there, Wayne taylor was a pretty good driver in SA back in the day

You'd be correct, GhoGho.......Taylor, like our friend T-K, is from South Africa and is probably one of the better sportscar racers in NA motorsports. This year, he's started his own team, stepping back from his driving duties a bit..........but he can still pedal the prototypes' around.

5th different DP class winner at Laguna Seca..........

Post by mlittle » Tue May 22, 2007 4:03 am

In the first four races of the 2007 Grand-Am Rolex Series season, there have been four different winners in the Daytona Prototypes..........
~~Rolex 24 at Daytona................................Scott Pruett, Salvador Duran, Juan Pablo Montoya
~~Mexico City 400k.....................................Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty
~~Linder Industrial/Komatsu GP of Miami.......Bill Auberlen, Matt Alhadeff
~~VIR 400k.................................................Max Angelelli, Jan Magnussen

Care to guess what happened in Monterey? For the fifth time this year, there was a different winner in the DP category, as Alex Job Racing and drivers Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister captured the win, gambling on fuel strategy to win over the hard-chargin' Ganassi duo of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas......here are the top 5 from the DP category:
DP-1} Patrick Long, Jorg Bergmeister, #23 Ruby Tuesday Porsche/Crawford
DP-2} Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas, #01 Telmex/Target Lexus/Riley
DP-3} Oswaldo Negri, Mark Patterson, #60 Flight Options Lexus/Riley
DP-4} David Donohue, Darren Law, #58 Red Bull/Brumos Porsche/Riley
DP-5} Ryan Dalziel, Patrick Carpentier, #11 CITGO/SouthCoast Fish Co. Pontiac/Riley

Moving over to the Grand Touring class.............it was the SpeedSource duo of Sylvain Tremblay and Nick Ham who won from pole in GT competition, winning over the Banner Racing duo of Paul Edwards and Kelly Collins, whose 2nd-place finish vaulted them into the GT points lead over Dirk Werner, who sits 2 pts. behind Edwards and Collins; here are the top-5 from the Grand Touring class:
