Championship Fights down to last round at MMP...........

Post by mlittle » Tue Aug 29, 2006 2:34 pm

The championships in both the Daytona Prototype and Grand Touring categories of the Grand American Road Racing Associations(a/k/a the Rolex Sports Car Series) will indeed go down to the last round at Miller Motorsports Park as both points battles tightened after Saturday's running of the Crown Royal Special Reserve 250 at Infineon Raceway in the heart of Sonoma wine country...........

First, the Daytona Prototypes.....using both late cautions and a very fast final pitstop for fuel only, CompUSA/Ganassi Racing drivers Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz scored their fifth win of the season, narrowing the gap to points leader Jorg Bergmeister down to 19 pts; just behind them is 2005 co-champion Max "the Axe" Angelelli, 23 pts back. Here is the top-5 from the Daytona Prototypes..........

DP-1}Scott Pruett, Luis Diaz................................................#01 CompUSA Lexus/Riley
DP-2}Butch Leitzinger, Andy Wallace...................................#4 The Boss Snowplow Pontiac/Crawford
DP-3}Adrian Fernandez, Mario Haberfeld.............................#12 Lowe's Hardware Pontiac/Riley
DP-4}Wayne Taylor, Max Angelelli, Jan Magnussen...............#10 SunTrust Pontiac/Riley
DP-5}Alex Figge, Ryan Dalziel............................................#89 Vonage/Playboy Pontiac/Riley

Meanwhile............in GT, it is now down to two teams; when the dust settles in Utah, either the duo of Andy Lally & Marc Bunting or Wolf Henzler & Robin Liddell will hoist the trophy at race's end. In Infineon, it was the latter duo who took home the win, besting the stronger GTO-R of Lally and Bunting. Here are the top-5 from the Grand Touring class.........

GT-1}Wolf Henzler, Robin Liddell......................................#72 NEC Porsche 911 GT3
GT-2}Andy Lally, Marc Bunting.........................................#65 The Racer's Group/F1 Air Pontiac GTO-R
GT-3}Leh Keen, David Murry............................................#80 Shoes for Crews Porsche 911 GT3
GT-4}Tommy Kendall, Burt Frisselle..................................#98 Ironclad Pontiac GTO-R
GT-5}Ian James, Eric Lux.................................................#74 Rembrandt Porsche 911 GT3

And then there was one......Saturday, Sept. 2nd, the 2006 season of the Rolex Sports Car Series concludes with the inaugural running of the 9-hour Discount Tire SunChaser.
