On a soaking wet track, Colin Edwards won the BMW M Award today at the MotoGP Official Test.

After James Ellison put in the fastest lap, John Hopkins and Valentino Rossi took over, swapping the top spot until Rossi went on a charge, continually improving his times until a crash put him out.

With ten minutes left in the session, Colin Edwards came through to take the fastest lap, and the car.

In the final free practice session, only 11 riders decided to take to the track and continue testing, with Sete Gibernau taking the fastest lap, and proving that he is a true wet weather specialist.

Times: Final day

1. Sete Gibernau - 1'56.355

2. Colin Edwards - 1'56.449
3. Kenny Roberts jr. - 1'57.508
4. James Ellison - 3 1'57.899
5. Carlos Checa - 3 1'58.589
6. Loris Capirossi - 1'59.560
7. Toni Elias - 2'00.209
8. Tadayuki Okada - 2'03.912
9. Jose Luis Cardoso - 2'05.468
10. Vittoriano Guareschi - 2'06.455

The next MotoGP Official Test takes place in Jerez, with three days of testing starting from next Friday.

Testing at Jerez began on wednesday, with the 125cc and 250cc classes taking to the track......

Today was another day for them, and was held under overcast skies, with only a handful of riders taking to the track......Out of those braving the conditions, Anthony West has been the fastest so far, although his time of 1?48 is well off the laps clocked in yesterday?s first session....

Tomorrow the big boys of MotoGP come out for the first time....will keep you posted...

Kawasaki Racing have suffered an unfortunate setback whilst travelling from Barcelona, scene of last week?s MotoGP Official Test, to the Circuito de Jerez for the final preseason gathering.

One of the Japanese team?s lorries suffered an accident near Valencia this morning, caused by ferocious winds on the Spanish roads. Thankfully the only physical damage was a foot injury to the driver of the vehicle.

Yesterday saw the premier class of MotoGP gathering in Jerez for the first of three testing sessions, which will serve as the final chance for fine-tuning ahead of the 2006 season.

The factory Ducati team dominated proceedings on day one, with Loris Capirossi clocking the fastest time of the session with a lap very close to that which earned Valentino Rossi the pole position last season. With teammate Sete Gibernau second on the leaderboard, Ducati were the first of a series of teams to post strong times on Bridgestone-shod bikes, demonstrating the tyre?s suitability for the Jerez track.

Following on from a great showing at the MotoGP Official Test in Catalunya last week, Shinya Nakano gave his Kawasaki team a welcome boost, coming after the news that one of their trucks had crashed on the way to the circuit.

From my opinion it is good to see Rossi down the time sheets 8) (no offense to the Rossi supporters  )

Final Times of Day one ended up as follows:

Times: Day One

1. Loris Capirossi - Ducati Marlboro 1'40.910

2. Sete Gibernau - Ducati Marlboro 1'41.176
3. Shinya Nakano - Kawasaki Racing 1'41.477
4. Dani Pedrosa - Repsol Honda 1'41.499
5. Toni El?as - Fortuna Honda 1'41.680
6. Colin Edwards - Camel Yamaha 1'41.730
7. Carlos Checa - Tech 3 Yamaha 1'41.732
8. John Hopkins - Rizla Suzuki 1'41.740
9. Valentino Rossi - Camel Yamaha 1'41.861
10. Randy de Puniet - Kawasaki Racing 1'41.915

I agree with that sentiment, and understand that we all just want to see close racing in all classes of motor sport.
The fact that there is a guy called Jeremy Burgess calling the shots on Rossi's bike, along with a lot of other crew who moved across with Rossi, and JB, makes me think that rossi will still be the boy to beat.....( I hve trouble calling Rossi a man  )

JB is a remarkable man, he and Rossi (The Man) have shown just how good they are by transforming the Yamaha from a bike on the edge of a crash into a Honda basher. They have done to Moto GP what RB and MS have done to F1. They show that it is team work that wins races not individuals yet still we cling to idolising the rider/driver. Rossi did exactly what Schui did, we are all supposed to think they are gods but they both had to take their engineers to turn those ailing teams around. Lets see someone turn a team around without taking the best engineers in the business.
