Re: The 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix Thread
This weekend, we are off to a new, to Formula 1, circuit. From what I can find, there are only two of the current crop of drivers who have driven a Formula 1 car at this circuit, Sebastian Vettel and Romain Grosjean. That said, these drivers are piloting vehicles that have been, to put it politely, disappointing in this abridged 2020 season.
So, what to look for?
Mercedes had a hiccup last weekend at Monza. They had been relatively slow through the speed traps and, with the limitation on race modes, were always in danger of not finishing at the top of the tree. Valtteri Bottas struggled to pass cars in traffic while Lewis Hamilton drove majestically to finish in the points after his penalty sent him to well past the rear of field.
McLaren were probably the find of the event in Monza with both cars in contention for the whole event and finishing in the top four.
The AlphaTauri's were on the pace for the whole weekend, mainly with Pierre Gasly but Daniil Kvyat was no slouch either.
The race kind of fell into Lance Stroll's hands and a spirited drive following the disastrous second race start where the field swamped him.
Red Bull had a weekend to forget as did Ferrari.
Renault were sort of there as was Sergio Perez. The cards just didn't fall their way.
Nicholas Latefi almost gave Williams their fairy tale send off and fell just one place short of the points.
Anyway, my meanderings are over and here is what I think will happen.
This circuit had a long straight but there are also some twisty bits. Cars will probably be setup with more drag but somewhat closer to Spa and nowhere near their Monza setup. There is just too much time to be lost in the turns. Getting into the DRS activation will be leave the lead car a sitting duck on the straight.
It will be interesting, that's about all I can say.
Bring it on!

Re: The 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix Thread
Following the conclusion of Friday practice, the big talk is tyres.
By the looks, the best compound to start the race on will be the medium. The reds are quick but the track temperatures will cut their life.
The most interesting outcome of the session is the improvement in pace of Ferrari. It is still mainly through Charles Leclerc though.
Also, their choice of the burgundy colour for this, the 1000th event, is interesting. It seems to have given them a new lease on life.

Qua;ifying
Esteban Ocon spun his Renault at turn 3 which then ruined the final runs of all following drivers. Valtteri Bottas probably the most affected.
Pierre Gasly just failed to make it out of Q1 after a great battle with Sebastian Vettel for the final spot into Q2.
Sergio Perez incurs a one place grid penalty for his collision with Kimi Raikkonen in FP2. He should start from grid position 7.
