Back in Europe and close to home for most teams.

Many teams will be rolling out their latest updates so let us see who has the most successful updates for improving their lap times.

The Circuit de Catalunya is probably the most familiar for teams in that most testing is conducted there. Sure, pre-season tests are conducted in single digit temperatures but the drivers have all done many laps in all classes at this circuit.

So, what will happen this weekend?

Ferrari will again battle it out with Mercedes and a qualifying gap to Red Bull.
The mid pack should be headed by Renault, then possibly Force India, Haas, McLaren and Toro Rosso then the rear with Williams and Sauber.
That said, the mid and rear pack gaps are small this season which will make this race entertaining from go to whoa.

The resurfacing of the circuit and the time for it to rubber in has caught out may drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo end up in the barrier in turn 4 damaging the left front corner, ending up on the back of a truck for the remainder of the session.
Lance Stroll ploughed into a sand trap, had no damage, but also ended on the back of a truck.

Other excursions were from Grosjean, Hartley, Vettel, Bottas and Kubica all had incidents but rejoined the track to complete the session.

Romain Grosjean ended in the gravel trap but the car was returned to the pits. It then completed the session.
Kimi Raikkonen looked like he popped an engine.
Sergio Perez was released with a loose left front wheel and pulled over.

Again in this session, there were some offs through the gravel traps and a few spins.

Hartley drops a left rear onto the dirt as he approaches turn 9 and has a monumental accident.
He is fine but the engine and chassis separated as the wreck was picked up to be placed on the truck.

No way he will make qualifying......
