Re: Round of Japan '18 - Picks and comments
Hi CM LEAN! You and I agree mostly this week. The last time Sebastian won at Suzuka was 2013 (for Red Bull). Since then Mercedes has won every single race in Japan (Lewis in 2014, 2015, & 2017; Nico in 2016. Unless something goes incredibly wrong at Mercedes (like borrowing their tactics from Ferrari's Arrivabene, or forgetting to connect the batteries in their hybrid engines) they'll repeat last week's one-two, this time, presumably gifting the Finn with the win.
Last year the best Kimi could manage was fifth, after starting tenth. Both Red Bulls and both Mercs were ahead of him. I'm assuming that this year the Ferrari team will check Seb's spark plugs before the race but I doubt if it will keep Max from getting past him.
So. Here's me picks:
1. Valeri Bottas, smiling from the pole position
2. Lewis Hamilton, cruising politely behind him
3. Max Verstappen, gathering more fans eager to see him in a Merc or a Ferrari
4. Seb, still grinning gamely -- but inwardly sick to his stomach
5. Ice Man on a mission Kimi (who'll be grinning, too, but for an entirely different reason)
6. Daniel Ricciardo (who well follow Max past both Ferraris)
7. Esteban Ocon will get the Pink team some more points
8. Romaine Grosjean will get points for Haas
9. Ericsson will add some more points to the resrugent Sauber team (but not Leclerc, not this week)
10. and Sergio Perez will get the last point for the Pink team
And the pole will be Valteri's this week, too.
The Renaults will not even make Q2 this week. One wonders how soon the bean counters at headquarters will throw up their hands and cut bait? As for Williams, aren't there any billionaires left in England to rescue English pride? How can F.I. get bailed out to the tune of $70 million --and all those bankers in London sit on their hands? Are there no more wealthy sportsmen left in G.B.? Maybe some Scot can re-brand Wms with a tartan livery? And McLaren. What can I say? They should paint the cars black. All black.
As to Yamamoto's yammering about Honda's new spec-3; where have I heard this before? Poor Toro Rosso. Poor F1. It's becoming a boring carousel: the same tune every week.
