Pretty good time from Bourdais given that this is his first time in F1.

The tests in Jerez seem to indicate that the new teams on Bridgestone tyres are pretty much on par with the older teams.

Renault have allowed Fernando Alonso to test for McLaren for 1 day.

The difference in times mlittle is due to different sources. Teams have their own timers and each reports times that are slightly different. In addition a team may end their test early and so their times could be very inaccurate.

What happened yesterday at Jerez was that Scott Speed had a crash and the team asked Liuzzi to take over.

So from 16th the order, times and laps are:

Fernando Alonso does not appear in the testing results for the day because his car has not the timing transponders

Then why is he listed elsewhere?

Thanks again for the updates mlittle. I have been more busier than usual over the last few days.

Explaining the times:

The times you've listed are what the Jerez circuit published except for Alonso. The time you have posted for Alonso is what the Honda team has reported. McLaren have reported him in 3rd with a best time of 1:19.747, Williams report him also in 3rd with a 1:19.745 (Williams have Kovalainen as fastest with a 1:19.106!!) while Renault have Alonso in 5th with a best time of 1:19.866.

Which one is the correct one ? Don't know but they are all pretty close but I think a more intersting statistic is the time Alonso set is very competitive given that it was his first day in the McLaren and on Bridgestone tyres. Pity we don't have access to lap by lap times

As for Liuzzi, he was indeed on loan to Red Bull and the Jerez site incorrectly reported him as driving the Toro Rosso.

The time Speed set was indeed very slow however he only drove for 15 laps as his hand was hurting him from the previous day's crash (the team state that the crash was due to a mechanical failure).

Team and driver quotes from the Jerez test will be available shortly.

It is fun to see the testing going on. However it has been demonstrated in the past that these times really mean very close to nothing.

One tries, the other doesnt. One car is fuelled up, the other isnt. One`s on fresh tyres, the other isnt. And so on.....

Even during a GP weekend the free practise times can be totally different to Qualifying and Race pace, so I wouldnt rave about pre-season test sessions in general. Ok, its fine if a car is up to speed immediately and if a reasonable degree of reliability is demonstrated but other than that....

I think the cars will move closer together for the next seson due to the freezed engines and the comparatively hard compound of tyre. Heres hoping....

Agree with what you say F1greyhound but I think with the lack of racing, we sort of start following what is happening in testing more closely.
Having said that, testing does give us an indication of whether a car is fast or slow and if it is reliable or not.

I think that we are all hoping for closer racing next season but as the regulations haven't changed much, we won't see much change in the area of overtaking.
We could however see a few teams fighting at the top (More than 3 would be very surprising though!)

The other thing to remember is that the cars are also still basicaly last years cars!

Yes they do have development bits 'n pieces on, but basically they are just being used as test beds for next years gearbox/suspension/whatever. By January some of the bits or pieces could be completely different again.

Lets hope the designers of the less competitive teams this year can sort out some really good new designs early on so we can have closer racing in '07.

Thats also right, makes the test times even more irrelevant...
