9 teams and 5 manufacturers have finalised proposals for the future of Formula One.

In summary, the 9 teams and 5 manufacturers agreed on key principles for the 2008 Technical, Sporting and Legal framework - in line with the recent FIA fan survey . A summary of these proposals was sent to the FIA with disucssions planned shortly

The Grand Prix Manufacturers' Association (GPMA) is formed by BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Honda, Renault and Toyota. The manufacturers' interests will be represented solely through this new entity.

The nine teams are: BAR, Jordan, McLaren, Minardi, Red Bull, Renault, Sauber, Toyota and Williams
The five manufacturers are: BMW; DaimlerChrysler, Honda, Renault and Toyota

Michelin released an Interview transcript with Pierre Depasquier detailing their observations regarding the FIA proposals leading to a single tyre supplier in F1 for 2008.

Pierre Depasquier:

This proposal to work with a single tyre manufacturer in reality conceals a fundamental issue: the reduction of the role of the tyre to that of a banal component with no other added value than permitting Formula 1 cars to be mobile. As the world?s leading tyre manufacturer, that is something we cannot accept.

At the Friday Press Conference at the Italian Grand Prix FIA President Max Mosley and Henri Richard discuss the overtaking problem in Formula 1 and how they are trying to solve it.

Michelin have given the FIA an ultimatum, allow competition between tyre supplier from 2008 or they could pull out at the end of the 2006 season.

A statement by Michelin read:

If the FIA policy is not changed within the next few weeks and should the control tyre principle be passed by the FIA World Council, Michelin would be forced to question its involvement in Formula 1 in 2008.
Michelin could even reconsider its participation in 2007 given that, out of respect for its partners and under current F1 rules, Michelin will continue to supply tires to its partner teams in 2006. 2007 would, therefore, quickly illustrate the consequences of the FIA?s policies

The FIA respond angrily to Michelin's claims. A statement by the FIA read:

Regarding the move for a single tyre supplier, Mr Michelin should be aware that the proposal did not come from the FIA but from all the competing teams, including all of Mr Michelin's teams. There are powerful arguments for a single tyre in Formula One. If Mr Michelin is not aware of these simple facts he shows an almost comical lack of knowledge of modern Formula One

I must say that it is more exciting to have more than one tyre supplier in F1.

Call me cynical but I wonder why this U turn by the FIA against competition. Does it have anything to do with Ferrari/Bridgestone struggling.

Every type of motorsport I have seen use a control tyre has benefitted from closer racing. I don't have a problem with one tyre supplier.
