Unless there are official times, the times reported by the teams vary widely.

For example. of the teams that reported the fastest time on day 2 at Monza; BMW Sauber reported that Zonta set the fastest time with a 1:21.80, McLaren reported Kubica set the fastest time with a 1:22.243, Renault reported Kubica set the fastest time with a 1:22.245.

Of course Honda reported Kubica with a 1:22.244!

And a few media outlets reported Rosberg set the fastest time with a 1:22.038

Go figure!

We'll see what day 3 brings!

If I really have to find out how a particular driver did, I check a number of websites and try to get an average... Most of the time those practice sessions do not tell much as Ed already mentioned before.

Why not? People share their thoughts. We also found out that practice times are not entirely reliable. But I too am glad to see that Williams is doing better even if they cannot reflect the same on the race track

In all motor sport, all info is good. I get a regular boot up the b ackside from someone for posting stuff I have gleaned from other sources....I have even been wrongly accused of making it up. I still share what I find.

Ok point taken. I just thought that I was being criticized for posting unreliable info. Too sensitive sometimes I guess.

Thanks again Jacfan for creating this thread. We usually cover the testing sessions comprehensively during the off season as there is no real action happening. During the season we mention it in the reviews.
It is very hard to accurately read into testing times unless you go over several tests and have access to lap by lap times.

There is always confusion with testing times. Teams may leave early and they will report the fastest time when they left. They each have their own timing systems (at least most of them do).

Please feel free to post F1 related info here. It allow people to talk about it. If it is inaccurate, we will mention it, if it belongs to another thread we will move it, that is our job

As for getting critisised by others, well, that is part of being a member of the forum But as long as you report your source you'll be safe

On the 3rd day of testing there seems to be general agreement that Massa set the fastest time. A 1:21.100 +/- 0.01 give or take.

The interesting thing is that he was over 0.7 seconds faster than the 2nd fastest driver (Alonso).

Was Massa much lighter ? Is the Ferrari much faster ? Did both have new tyres ?

Hopefully we'll have a better idea next week!!

Yes I agree. It is very hard to know exactly what the times mean due to not knowing what tyres, fuel loads and even what exactly the teams are testing.

When you or anyone else posts something without quoting the source or when you post something and label it as fact when it isn't, I will certainly object if I don't think it makes sense.

Even when quoting the source, one should think about it. Journos do spread rumours too!
Just look at how many times you said Webber will join Renault in 2007 ? He ended up at Red Bull which no one expected early on (except for me that is ... go look in the 2007 lineup thread ) Actually when I suggested Red Bull is a better bet than Williams you laughed at my suggestion (in the Mark Webber thread!).

And you still have to prove those so called facts of yours in that other thread.

Problem is that you can't cause they aren't facts! You just made them up
