I agree 100% . If this guy doesn't deserve some hype , I don't know who does . We've never seen someone come in and do the things he's done . :!:

I beg to differ. Lewis is VERY good so far but to say that we have never seen someone come in and do the things he's done... NO.
Not sure of you age but check back to 1996... Jacques Villeneuve.
His début was nothing less than spectacular, as he became only the third Formula One driver in history to achieve both a pole and a podium position in his maiden grand prix. He led the race until an oil leak, and team orders, forced him to slow and allow team mate Damon Hill to pass. He held on to finish second. He won four races that year, reached the podium 11 times, and finished with 78 points — all rookie records which still stand today.

  • True , and never was to strong a word there , but Jac was an Indy 500 winner by then .
  • Not to discount him taking F-1 by storm also , but I guess I've never thought of him as being a "novice'" to the upper echelon of the sport .
  • I'm an old Indy fan so I guess being so familiar with him it didn't seem as groundbreaking as what Hamilton is doing . But I'd have to say your correct .
  • Besides , I'm a tifoso , so you gotta give me a little leeway . It doesn't come out as easily when I'm talking about a non Ferrari driver.

TEAM ORDERS!!! :x

I've heard JV in interviews say he over drove the car cooking the tires in his debut, then his telepathy started telling him the car would self destruct in 10 seconds. The team told him to cool it and just try to make the finish although they didn't think he would make it. After all, he had already made his point by that stage. Making the finish only helped galvanize the team around him.

JV never dominated any series before he moved up to Indy Cars. His best season up to that point was coming third in Atlantics behind his teammate Claude Bourbonais and David Empringham the year before. A few years before that he had a chance to win the Monaco Grand Prix but stuffed it at the hairpin. I think Giancarlo Fisichella won that race. The same year, he nearly won the Macau Grand Prix for Formula 3, but made an ill-conceived pass attempt on a backmarker, took to the air and got friendly with the barriers. Tom Kristensen won that race.

Lewis Hamilton has risen to the top of every formulae he has participated in. He is a bit more like Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, or Jan Magnussen. Nice company!

But your point is well taken...

:o

  • It's like having two lovely ladies chasing after you ( which happens only in my dreams ) , which ever one catches you first is your favorite . As long as they are in Red , it's all good , though Massa has stolen my heart with his moxie . But then , I try hard not to "hate" drivers , no matter what team their with . I can say something good about any of them .
  • But I thought at this point it would be Massa that everyone was suprised by , because I felt he had an advantage over the two best drivers in F-1 (Alonso and Kimi) simply from being more familiar with the equipment , particularly tires .
  • I suppose I would have been right had Alonso not hit the ground running in the Mclaren and I didn't see Hamilton being this big of a factor , but who did , other than Hammie himself possibly .
  • So far , I've been right about Kimi not adapting faster , I suppose Oz was an abberation . Dog-gone-it , why did I have to be right about that one ? :?

There were a couple of people who thought that Massa would be the WDC this year... myself included. As for Hambone... well Snowy was certainly singing his praises LOUD and CLEAR well before the start of the year.
