Not bad, is it, when you remember that TATA started off as a small, family owned textiles company, and is still owned by the family!!

Sorry - this ones an oldie 'news' story of mine, but with all this talk of Tata - I couldn't resist giving it another airing !

Northampton, Tuesday. Indian rookie Narain Karthikeyan's Jordan/Midland (delete as applicable) drive is apparently under threat after a misunderstanding over sponsorship. Part of Narain's sponsor portfolio includes Tata, the Indian automotive and metals conglomerate, but the teams Russian bosses thought he was bringing Tatu, the mock-lesbo-schoolgirl singing duo. Said a team spokesman 'Look, we plainly don't need the money sponsors bring, but the appeal of having the Tatu birds coming along to races was too good to miss, instead we now have a load of truck salesmen from Delhi - its just not on'

Now I'll tell you something even funnier. A few days after I put that story up I had several emails from distraught Indians who plainly thought it was a real story. This is the text of one from a guy in Chennai:

'This is outrageous news ! Narain needs to be in F1 for India and I cannot believe that a professional team like Jordan can make such a silly mistake. They should check these sorts of things most carefully !
Go Narain !'

That was one of just a few. Amazing.
