Suzuka start

I have a question about the "jump start" and basic start processes for the race. So if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
There has been some footage around showing that Seb rolled in his start box during the red light process.
Is this actually deemed as an illegal act? My understanding is that a jump start means to go over you grid line prior to lights.
Couldn't see anything in the regs about having to be completely stationary.

That's a good question, RB6. Ed probably knows the answer to this better than I but as far as I know, simply rolling in the start box as the lights come up is against the sporting regs. The question Charlie Whiting has to ask is that 'did he come to a complete stop before the lights went green OR did he continue through?'

My guess(and it is simply a guess) is that Whiting didn't see enough of a jump start to warrant issuing a drive-through penalty for jumping the start. Then again, with only a few races remaining and Sebby V. one of five drivers still in the WDC fight, the stewards aren't going to penalize someone unless their is clear evidence they broke the rules and I would almost bet Whiting saw Vettel roll, looked to make sure he didn't roll through the box and/or he didn't just keep going through the lights and let it drop there.

But does the wunderkind get 'drive of the day' from the gearheads at NewsonF1.com? No. He doesn't even out-score his team mate who earns, with another good clean reliable drive, second place.

No. You guys (and gals) choose Kobayashi who finishes --even behind Michael Schumacher!-- in SEVENTH PLACE.
Yeah, lets rather not give it to the young guy who managed to pull off a blinder of a race, do what everyone said is impossible (A: Pass in Formula 1 & B: Pass at Suzuka) take a few knocks from some other inexperienced drivers and still manage to come home ahead of his much more experienced, albeit slightly rusty, teammate...
He was superb on the brakes, and granted his first move was a little on the rough side, he got past 6 or 7 drivers (i lost count after Barrichello) on the circuit.. Which was genuine pace, we aren't talking Massa from the back coming through class B, we are talking about a seriously under performing car getting passed some much faster competition... I fully think he deserves both driver of the day and his seat next year...

Heck his moves were the only exciting thing about the race.. apart from some wayward moves at the start (Apparently braking on the grass yields better traction tan tarmac  )

Vettel drove a blinder, he was untouchable all weekend and he was superb, I don't think he even had to really, truly push all race long... I am deeply disappointed that Kubica lost a shoe and its a bit disturbing that they seem to pop off with such ease, perhaps some sort of license should be required to bolt on wheels.

Just saying 8)
