It was funny He went straight, not realizing that turn one was already there

Actually I thought he had hit the barrier but apparently not.

Anyway, that "parking lot" was perhaps one of the best I have seen for the last oh, 20 years...

Was Hamilton really favored? Claims are that during the pileup in the gravel trap at turn one he was given preferential treatment. Some say that his was not the only engine that was running at the time.

It's news from a rather questionable Spanish paper but could be worth pondering if true.

Hamilton got many chances to recover but didn't take advantage. Interesting that he got back into the race with the help of a crane

There was a discussion about that in an F1 related program... They say if the engine is still running and it'll take less time and effort to bring the car back to the track without endangering the race then the crane shall do so. Same goes for marshals pushing it back onto the track.

Thanks GK, i was wondering about that too. It used to be that no outside assistance was allowed, with an automatic DSQ if the marshals helped.

It was unreal! With the camera focused on Hamilton, I think 3 or 4 cars just started to slide there! There goes one, and another one and another one then with the safety car speeding up to aviod a flying Toro Rosso. Yes it was the best I have seen in years!! Brazil a few years ago comes close and of course the Spa pileup!!

I actually think Hamilton did nudge the barrier but yes he was very lucky but equally smart by keeping the engine running after the initial off and staying in the car. I suspect some smart team thinking too.
