Coulda sworn I saw a couple other cars parked around him

It was funny

He went straight, not realizing that turn one was already there
Actually I thought he had hit the barrier but apparently not.
Anyway, that "parking lot" was perhaps one of the best I have seen for the last oh, 20 years...

To be perfectly honest he was just lucky that his engine didn't stall.

Only eight people voted but we already have 4 Drivers of the Day

Another proof that the German GP was one of the better races

Was Hamilton really favored? Claims are that during the pileup in the gravel trap at turn one he was given preferential treatment. Some say that his was not the only engine that was running at the time.
It's news from a rather questionable Spanish paper but could be worth pondering if true.

Hamilton got many chances to recover but didn't take advantage. Interesting that he got back into the race with the help of a crane
There was a discussion about that in an F1 related program... They say if the engine is still running and it'll take less time and effort to bring the car back to the track without endangering the race then the crane shall do so. Same goes for marshals pushing it back onto the track.
Thanks GK, i was wondering about that too. It used to be that no outside assistance was allowed, with an automatic DSQ if the marshals helped.

It was unreal! With the camera focused on Hamilton, I think 3 or 4 cars just started to slide there! There goes one, and another one and another one then with the safety car speeding up to aviod a flying Toro Rosso. Yes it was the best I have seen in years!! Brazil a few years ago comes close and of course the Spa pileup!!
I actually think Hamilton did nudge the barrier but yes he was very lucky but equally smart by keeping the engine running after the initial off and staying in the car. I suspect some smart team thinking too.

I guess that part of the rules has been changed

Sutil was very lucky.
Speed also narrowly missed Hamilton
McLaren team probably told Hamilton to keep the engine running if the damage was not very serious.
I held my breath when Liuzzi came flying behind the safety car and nearly crashed into the crane full force...
It was melo-dramatic

Perhaps not as spectacular as the Spa pileup but still one of the cool ones. Especially since no one got hurt one bit, except a few egos

This part of the translation takes the cake
"Scott Speed, who already had gotten off itself before his Toro Rosso, as she marks by security the regulation well of ENTRUSTS it in articulated his, could not avoid to be surprised when seeing as the crane took the single-seater of the Briton until placing it, again, on the brink of madness the track so that she could follow his participation in the great prize."
