It certainly isn't cost effective as another supplier is added and after reading this statement: "Cosworth have neither the time nor the resources to retune for 2010" (from the letter from the FIA to FOTA), I must ask the question why is the FIA allowing a supplier to come into F1 yet (and by their own admission) this supplier doesn't have the time nor the resources to comply with the regulations.
There are 5 engine suppliers already in Formula 1 (Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Renault and Toyota). If the FIA want's another entrant, perhaps they could negotiate a deal with Honda as they also have engines that do comply with the regulations.
Nothing against Cosworth but if they want to supply engines (and make a profit I am sure), they need to be on a level playing field.
One has to wonder about the real motives behind this!
Well the real motive so far is that Max Mosley simply wants to increase his power over teams, to not only control them with technical regulations, but to also monitor and CONTROL their financial dealings. that is like me going to your house and telling you what you can and can not buy for the rest of your carrier, and on top of that also spying on what you do with your money. Since Mosley will have full intrusion on all of the teams dealings.
If this is the case then Mosley and the FIA should simply make 10 of their own teams (all owned by Mosley) and that is it. race with himself.
And who would do the whipping

It turns out that the FIA said this on the 5th of December 2008:
"We have completed the tendering process and are now in exclusive negotiations with Cosworth together with Xtrac and Ricardo Transmissions (XR) to supply a complete Formula One power train starting in 2010.
The engine will be a current Formula One engine while the transmission will be state-of-the-art Formula One …"
So how can a 2006 spec engine be a current Formula One engine ?
I've expanded more on my previous post on the blogs:
What's the deal with Cosworth ?

It simply cannot.
More Mad Max Hubris.
This man (using the appellation very loosely) must surely realise that he has earned nothing but contempt from every F1 fan, every intelligent businessman, (including sponsors), every street kid, every street working woman, (and most of the British n German girls know all about him), every engineer, panel beater, fabricator, .........I would think that even Bernie must feel contempt.
I do think that FOTA are playing a smart game, and he has just put his neck in the noose.
Gawd, I hope I am right, because this egomaniac has destroyed this season, previous seasons with his ridiculous posturing, idiotic regulations,
and manifest idiocies. Shall we just take a look at KERS.........(pronounced curs by most F1 teams). Millions of Euros invested, now abandoned by all but 1 team. Now that is reigning in expenditure???
My question is, why is there no-one in the FIA to stand up for all the good that the FIA can do, and spank the little poop into submission. Is there no-one in the organisation with any pride whatsoever????

It is reported that Max Mosley has written to the 5 teams with conditional entries accepting a budget cap in 2010 for 100 million dropping to 40 million in 2011. It remains to be seen if this is attractive enough for FOTA or the individual teams to enter. Time is running out.

GO FOTA.Tighten the screws.
Having lived withe probability of a split for some time now, (again), I really do think I would prefer a split, just to get rid of bloody pissants like the FIA, Mad Max, and the bloody gnome.

FOTA are announcing a new series after talks with the FIA failed to reach an agreement
"It has become clear however, that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.
These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.
The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series. "

The crisis is over.
News emerging from the World Motor Sport Council meeting that an agreement has been reached where cost in the sport will be cut to that of the 90's over the next 2 years and that Max Mosley will not seek re-election.
