At the World Motor Sport Council meeting held on the 9th of December, it was announced that the detailed 2008 Formula 1 Techinical regulations will be finalised during the week commencing the 19th of December. The objectives of these regulations should be to reduce drastically the cost of competing and to change the aerodynamic characteristics of the cars so as to make it easier to overtake without increasing cornering speeds.

and will include:

A standard Electronic Control Unit
Long life engines
Long life gearboxes
A single tyre supplier
Restrictions on the ability of the teams to change their aerodynamics during the season
Rev-limited engines and other measures

Reading Bernie's comments on all the drama unfolded for Alonso coup, with Bernie accusing Dennis & showing sympathy for Flavio,he might be able to get Renault now under concorde agreement..

I doubt Renault will sign anything. Me thinks they will be out in a couple of years anyway. Unfortunately.

Well what else am I supposed to do in the off season!!!! Give me motor racing for goodness sake I am going out of my mind.

But seriously, the new boss of Renault is trying to grow the company. Whilst he is doing that he is also trying to make the company less vulnerable. If he is spending around $300m on F1, which is "rumoured" to be around half the total profit of Renault, it it not possible that the F1 team is looking very precarious?

Carlos is not a fan of F1 either. Oh and F1 does not appear to be doing much for the companies profits. Even in Spain.

Both British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco (Mild Seven, etc...) have agreed not to renew their sponsorships beyond 2006. That said, Philip Morris (Marlboro, etc...) agreed to that too but they still renewed with Ferrari although tobacco signage won't appear on the Ferrari cars, just the colours!

Reading the 2008 rules, any manufacturer would be nuts to join.

The V8's will be rev limited to 19,000
How will a manufacturer get an edge ? F1 will be just like the lower series, single everything and then people won't bother watching.

I just hope the manufacturers can finalise their regulations for 2008 soon and send a serious message to Max.

Renault reports that the increase in sales of cars in Spain since winning the Titles is 3:7% or double the increase in France and Germany 8)

Yeah a massive lag. I wonder if 3.7% justifies the amount spent on F1 to Carlos.
