Julian, what are your thoughts as a Saints supporter on the outcome of the game in Tasmania?
Do you reckon they did the right thing awarding Freo the game?

This ia a serious reply, Bundy. I was raised with the belief the Umpire is always right. The umpire/referee in most codes decides when to blow time off or full time. In some codes, ie Union, when the siren goes, the Ref still decides when to call full time.
Despite the fact that I am a Saints supporter, in my view the game should have stood as a draw, for the sake of AFL credibility, the players, and the public. Or been called a no game.
I read a report in the Age where, during the game, the clock suddenly jumped forward 8 seconds. IF this is true
A. What the hell for ?
B. Then the game was a draw if it is true.
C. In a $ billion sport this whole incident is farcical.

I have always said that a kick awarded should be taken at any time, before or after the siren, in any quarter.

I just feel sick for the Saints players, these days a win is damned hard for any team, to lose like that sucks.
What if it had been a Collingwood/ Freo game?

All good points. The TV clock jump 8 sec due to the fact it was 8s behind the official clock.

On the flip side of that if the game had remained a draw Freo have been dudded.

It was a no win situation. The AFL have been shown to be completely incompetent, Demetriou & Anderson deserve to lose their jobs over this whole debacle.

In my opinion, justice was done. The error was not a judgement error by the umpires but rather a mistake by the time keeper to discharge his duties as required by the laws of the game & also inappropriate facilities at the ground.

Had the time keeper continued to sound the siren the game WOULD have been stopped prior to the Ball Up.
Had the umpires had a single brain cell between them, they would have realised that something was up when you have 11 freo players saying they heard the siren has gone, stopped the game & checked.

Its an unfortunate incedent that probably also highlights a serious problem in the rules of the game.

Unfortunately, for me anyway, Essendon looked destined for the wooden spoon. Too many players playing well below par!!!

At least we should get some good picks at the end of the year.

Well on the bright side, Essendon cannot go any further down.. the only way is up from here. :alright:
