Thanks Ed.Interesting data there, especially the 94-95 time comparisons!!

The engineers would get back the speed to almost this year's speed by the later part of next season.Tyres ,yes would play a crucial role again

F1i has reported that BMW is strggling to get their V8 to reach 19,000 rpm., and is having serious vibration problems.
A Williams spokesman has confirmed that their Cosworth engine order is to a much higher spec than they had planned to run with the BMW unit.
Cosworth has confirmed that they have run their unit past 20,000 rpm (on the bench) many times without problems.
(The Cosworth unit can be heard running on the Cosworth web site.)

Of course Renault will just sit back and relax next season. They've won the championship already so why bother!!!!!!!!

Well let me give you an early wake up call, the others will be struggling to catch Renault!

Why do I say so ? Here are some very simple facts:

In the last 15 years, Ferrari and Renault have won the most championships with 6 each. By the end of this season, Renault will have 7

In the last 15 years, Ferrari have won 84 races while a Renault powered car has won 82 times. No other engine suppliers come close, Mercedes at 42 and Honda at 19

This despite the fact that Renault wasn't even in F1 for 3 of those 15 years and that Ferrari dominated the last 6 seasons!

Oh and 1 other simple fact. It took Renault just 2 seasons to produce a title winning engine. 2 while all the others have spent years and years.

With all the teams starting from scratch, the rest of the grid are worried!

You will be in for a nice surprise when the new Renault makes it to the track

And then there is the Alonso "The Cute" New World Champ factor

I think it would be a very brave person who makes any predictions about next season, other than tongue in cheek 8)
And leaving Renault out was a simple error, not one calculated to bring screaming banshees down upon myself, nor voodoo dolls out of the cupboard

What I was going to say was..." a very brave person or an extremely foolish one".....................but courage failed me at the last hurdle

I hope so Jayvee, I would like to see Renault do well next season too, but there are just too many unkowns. Its hard to discount anyone. As long as Renault don't try something that doesn't quite work like a different degree V again, then I am sure they will be up there somewhere.

But there aren't too many unknowns!

The engine is the only change (as far as I know). I think all the other regs are the same.

For some teams it will be a big change like Williams for example, new engine supplier and new tyres. For Toyota it will be new tyres but the rest will not have many unknowns.

Toyota or Williams may get it right but when it comes to predicting, you usually take the safer path and I would say McLaren and Renault will have the edge however given McLaren's engine problems, I would expect them to have all sorts of problems with their new engine (they can't get a V10 to consistently last 2 races!!) and that leaves Renault in front.

So you thought I was foolish when I predicted the end of the Ferrari era earlier this year

Yes but it is a whole new engine. Most of the development put into the V10 will not be much help. Normally I would say that Renault would be the pick next year but I won't be predicting anything until we get towards the end of winter testing.

I agree about McLaren, but strager things have happened. I know you predicted Ferraris demise this year, but who would have thought that they would struggle as much as they have.

It is all just too hard to predict what next year will bring. But it will be interesting.
