A dark horse pairing on the day could be the 58yr young "Gentleman" Jim Richards and James Courtney.
Jim has won Bathurst 7 times, and was a good chance last year, driving with son Steven Richards.
That was until Skippy, the Kangaroo, hopped out in front of them.
Result = instant dog food, and a DNF.
Jim is still very much on the pace, and he rates James highly.
The Holden Racing Team is not in the habit of inviting slow people to drive their cars.

John Bowe,who has won here on a couple of occasions and been on the podium a few more, has an interesting theory on why he, and team- mate Brad Jones are traditionally quick on The Mountain.
He feels that it is the one circuit which requires at least as much, if not more, from the Driver as it does from the car. He feels that this enables the smaller budget teams to stand alongside the "factory" teams at this track which tests every facet of a race entry.

Here are my shootout picks for Bathurst(hopefully, I won't pick both drivers from the same pairing, like I did for Sandown! ), Here goes...

Some who compete pair up, some team mates pair up, some guys step up from the feeder series, some guys come from overseas. The two guys in the car get the same points.

The Winner of Sandown has gone on to win Bathurst only 8 times in 39 years
However the last person to do so was Craig Lowndes in 1996, BUT a Canadian ( Alan Moffat) also did it in1970. So all you omen punters can decide what that means.

As I gaze into my crystal ball, the podium prodiction that come to mind is

This year will be the year of Ford mainly because of SBR engines.

It will be ironic if the SBR engine in Lowndes car costs SBR a victory at the Mountain as it did at Sandown. Rusty and Ambrose would not be happy campers if they were outpaced, or succumbed to engine gremlins.

Another little tid bit for you. Paul Stoddart will be sponsoring the second FPR car for the remainder of the year, starting with Bathurst. OzJet will be doing the sponsorship.

To assist with your picks, and in no way to encourage gambling,
Bookmakers have installed Skaife/T Kelly as favourites to win at The Mountain this Sunday.
2nd favourite is Lowndes/Muller
while the bookies have R. Kelly/Tander in third place.
They rate Ambrose as fourth favourite, primarily due to his relatively inexperienced co-driver.
Were I a gambler I would imagine there would be some good odds about Rusty, and Murphy. But I'm not, and I know one thing for certain. There is nothing certain about picking a winner at this incredible track.
