I couldn't pick him cause of his engine. I suspect he will only last a few laps but I hope you are right.
Anyway, good to see someone putting Villeneuve ahead of Heidfeld. All those rating Heidfeld can now see how good Villeneuve is despite his age .... where are they anyway ? come out and face reality

Second: Kimi Raikkonen - He will try
Third: Jenson Button - Continues the tradition of being the only points scorer for Honda
Fourth: Giancarlo Fisichella - I was taking care of my engine
Fifth: Juan Pablo Montoya - This is a nice comfy place
Sixth: Mark Webber - Home track advantage
Seventh: Felipe Massa - Again has a great drive after an engine change
Eighth: Nico Rosberg - Only this time mate!
Pole: Fernando Alonso - Will have the correct fuel this time!
Left out Villeneuve cause I don't think his engine will last

You pride yourself on your stats and accuracy.
"Two drivers on the outside"....on the outside of what ? .....oh yes, I remember, the straight, at the start. One driver was trying to bury the other driver in the fence at the time. Young Nico,s ear should have lost most of the impact swelling from SF's hand about now.
Normally I respect your posts, that part is just infammatory rubbish......do not EVER lower yourself to my level.

What I said was completely accurate, he did take two driver on the outside of turn 1. Call it rubbish as many times as you like but it is true.
You don't like what Nico did, I can understand but that isn't Alonso's problem. He saw an opportunity and took it.

There have been how many world champions? Leaving JV aside, and most of us accept that he nearly lost the unloseable WDC ,
How many years did the others take?

Jack Brabham
Dennis Hulme
Fangio
Ascari
Jochen Rindt
Guiseppe Farina
Mike Hawthorn
James Hunt
??
A raw figure, not a stat, please

This is way
I don't like raw figures (whatever that means!!). When I get the time, I will dig up the stats for all those you mention and post in a new thread.
But I thought Fangio would be against your argument

I agree with Jay Vee; I don't like "raw" numbers either. If you're making generalizations and you want them to be useful, you have to have some appreciation of statistics. Which actually is a science. And statistics, properly understood, are exceedingly useful things. The fact that folks use "statistical sounding" arguments to sell you things and spin reality to fint their prejudice doesn't say anything useful about statistics. It just reminds us that any devil can quote scripture to his advantage.
And given Kimi's and Jenson's increasingly bad luck, it would be useful to be reminded how long it "generally"takes to win a WDC.
I agree, though, that should be another posting

Incidentally, only 2 Australians have won a GP in the last 50 years.
That is a raw statistic.

Jim,
the thing that really worries me about stats is this.
When, albeit reluctantly, studying the mongrel subject I put to the lecturer a hypothesis.
I fire 100 rounds at the Lecturer, one kills the Lecturer.
The Lecturer has a, statiscally speaking, 99% probability of being alive. But the first shot killed the lecturer.
Sigh, booted from yet another class. I am running out of Universities.
