Schumi set the two fastest laps of the race, and five out of the ten fastest laps, imagine how fast he would be going if he wasnt so old and had lost all those tenths

But then I am only using actual fastest lap times to highlight who was going fastest, I'm sure someone will point out the error of my ways.

Sweet FA "stuffed up" and went wide, very nearly letting Schumi past, but we don't hear about that. He has made plenty of mistakes in the last few races, and nearly gave his position away right at the end!

Schumi didnt finish behind Sweet FA solely because of the SC, but sweet FA wouldnt have gotten ahead of him without it. After the SC, Schumi could have got ahead again if he had been right on sweet FA's tail as he pitted, but in the second stint Schumi couldn't extract the sort of speed he showed in the rest of the race. Too bad. It was a great race, sweet FA gets my drive of the day for keeping Schumi behind him, Massa a very close second for showing real speed and keeping it under control.

Setting a whole number of fastest laps means nothing if you lose 4 seconds in one lap.

When Michael had to close the gap he made a mistake and went wide. He made a big mistake when it mattered and it meant the difference between finished 3rd and winning.
They also mentioned he made a mistake in qualifying and that is why he ended up second. Had he started on pole, things would have been very different. Again it was a misake when it matters.

Alonso put in a stunning drive in a car that was clearly slower than the Ferrari. His best time was 3 tenths faster than Fisichella's despite all the pressure and I think he was on a second race engine.
Alonso did make a few small mistakes but in the end he held onto his place despite this being a circuit where we've seen plenty of overtaking and it isn't a Imola.
On similar circuits in the past Alonso overtook Michael (Japan last year is an example, Bahrain via the pits this year). Now I am only speculating but had it been the other way around, Alonso would have found a way past.

Lol, I voted Massa for the drive of the day. He did very well and drove a faultless race. We can speculate endlessly about what could have or would have happened, but he did it in the end.

I didn't see what happened on the second lap when he dropped back, there were yellow flags and debris so he may have been just cautious. Do you know what happened ? Did you watch the right race ?
He recovered and when the safety car was deployed he took advantage for a change. Remember in Hungary when he lost something like half a minute or more to the safety car and that allowed Michael to unlap himself!

Alonso was one of the few drivers who didn't go wide at Turn 8, with all the footage from Michael's car you saw how good he was through that turn where Michael struggled big time. Come to think of it, since last year it has become one of the most challenging turns in F1 and many other highly regarded drivers went wide/off there

It was so durn hot on the track I could have sworn when I watched the rerun it was a different race

I witnessed most of the passing action at turn 12 but missed that much talked about mistake of Schumi. Call it bad luck or stupidity but I missed it during the rerun as well Saw the first corner pile-up only during the rerun.

Hey all, just thought i would pop in & say hello.

I've noticed that JayVee has her FA blinkers on again and voted him driver of the day!!!

Sorry JV, but you are getting a little bit ridiculous. I am an unabated Webber fan BUT you have to acknowledge that sometimes other have better days.

I give FA credit though he probably drove the 2nd best race of the day. It was good work getting by MS and he did a good job holding MS back as MS was quicker than him.

In this case, anyone who votes for anyone other than Massa is an out and out IDIOT and should be booted from the F1 Idiots group for extreme idiocy. What more does a bloke have to do? Pole, Fastest Laps & wins the race. Add to that he was challenge by MS & FA for the odd moment here and there but BLEW them both away!!!! Me thinks Massa had not only a perfect race but a perfect weekend.

I don't care who you support or cheer for the fact that you could actually believe that FA drove a better race than Massa de-values everything you post.

And JV you are better than that!!!!

As for the race, it was a great race and IMHO Massa was definitely driver of the weekend.
Well done to Massa on his first race win. Must be better than delivering pizzas.

All this debate....

MICHAEL in the end definitely lost the race in the pits during the SC, everybody knows that except those who dont want to. The crew expected him of course to pass FERNANDO later which never happened. But not because MICHAEL was too slow, as a matter of fact he set some quickest laps as has been documented. He made one "error" when he went wide in a turn many of his colleagues went wide too, some of them crashing out, incl. TONIO who produced the SC situation. Mind you, these guys are all going on a tiny limit and obviously MICHAEL had a problem with his tyres in that phase. He didnt throw it away though and later almost caught FERNANDO even if his car was freakishly inferior through turn 8 where MICHAEL had to shift down to keep control. Not saying he was the best in ISTANBUL but fair to say he was a shade unlucky. My credit goes to the whole FERRARI team as they didnt opt to make things hard for FELIPE and gambling to get a 1-2 which they couldnt have hoped for if they had called MICHAEL in 1st. In that case it would have ended a most certain 1-3 the other way around. FERRARI would probably have been happier with that but opted for fair play. FELIPE has to be the driver of the day and FERNANDO made no mistake and kept his chances.

The finish of the season will be most exciting but I expect "the old man" to come out tops. I also suppose he will then retire and that FERRARIs support of FELIPE is one additional proof of that.
